Obviously there are a lot of youngsters here. I see many of the 50's and 60's cars being pointed out as fugly. In my opinion, I see them as having "character". Also the AMC's of the 70's and 80's, while I never had one, I thought they had the balls to be different, which is why we remember them today. Don't forget the 390 and 401 Ambassador SST and Javelins. Also, if I'm not mistaken, didn't the Cuda's roots begin with the Marlin in some way?

This is one of the cars that gets my vote. Buick must have been smoking crack when they came up with this design. The Rendezvous is pathetic too. Also well as the Pontiac A$$crack. The Citroen goes without saying, what do you want from the French anyway.

I find most 50's American cars beautiful, the Edsel being one of the least, but still being a great car. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The windshield on the old 900's looks quite strange... I can't believe that this car is aerodynamic!
Anyway, the whole car is pretty ugly!
The only French cars that looks decent to me are some old Peugeot models like the 504. I was amased that the French made such nice looking cars (compared to the others!).
Then I discovered that they were designed in Italy!
However, I doubt that they were any better than the other French cars!

How true! The Italians and French share similar things in cars - reliability being one of the biggest!

But the Renault 16 is quite an attractive sedan. I think you need to see it from the front to appreciate it more. I'd rather have one of those before I'd buy an old Valiant. Plus, I think it has some kind of historical distinction, probably with FWD.

It's a shame French (and Italian) cars get such a bad rap because they make the most attractive cars in Europe. The Brits have never been able to get their doodie together - ever see the badge-engineered cars from British Leyland?

I don't know, I thought the Brits really had their stuff together when they came up with this "Fliptail" V540 V8 Vantage ...

I think that the old Peugeot 504 doesn't look too bad but the Renault 16 is definitely ugly (to my eyes)! The grille alone is probably the only part of the car that is acceptable (to my eyes) the rest isn't much better than the Citron "2 chevaux" with it's flat glass all around, and disproportionned body.
Any AMC products, including the Gremlin or flying Matador from "The Man With The Golden Gun" looks better than these!! One of my neibors had a 68 Ambassador SST 2 door hardtop and I have to admit I liked it!

I dunno, looks pretty normal for a European family sedan to me.

If you like VWs, then there shouldn't be a problem liking 2CVs. The little Citroen is the ultimate in utilitarianism (too bad Sartre was more of an existentialist! :pp ). It gets the job done and can be tuned with a screw driver. I just see it as cute more than ugly.

You want ugly? The Renault Dauphine is ugly! That's a face only a mother could love.

  9. does anyone remember the wimpy Dodge Swinger and Scamp from the early '70's? With that concave back window?

    Whats wrong with this ???

And be careful how you answer .... this car is mine :puzzled:

Don't worry Dan, while the design is somewhat bland in some people's eyes, I really like it's sweet simplicity. It's clean and mean looking. The idea of stuffing a big block, or even a small block V8 in one of those really gets me excited! :Brow:

    340s are cool, but I'd take a '68 Formula S.

That's true... Ain't that enough to be on this thread!:Brow:

Are you speaking about the Volkswagen Thing???
To my eyes, even that thing looks better than the 2cv!

 Whoops-it looks like I stepped on someone's toes.....Sorry Dan! As for your '72...I DO like the color!
 If it's any consolation...that is the cleanest Swinger I've seen! That's the great thing about cars....there is something for everyone....what doesn't appeal to some does appeal to others...glad you've found what you like!

  15. Thats okay ... I can take it in stride , thanks for the compliments . I wish I could say I can take credit for the Dart but I cant ... it pretty much looked the way you see it when I bought it . It had a bad motor and I replaced that .. so I guess I can take credit for under the hood, and Ive made a few minor mods but as far as the paint and body work (shes got some patch panels on her and shes a little wavier in person ) I cant take credit . I never did cast my vote for ugliest car so I might as well do it now :

1961 Dodge I believe its called a pioneer .... ugliest damn car Ive ever seen

Sounds pretty strange coming from a guy who owns Mopars huh? My older brother had one of these when I was a kid back in the early 70s. I would play and pretend to drive all of his cars .... except this one . This car was just :moonu: ugly.

I believe the Pioneer was a part of the Dart series. Kinda get confusing for 1960-61. I think the Polara was the only long-wheelbase offering. The 2-door hardtops are kinda sleek in their own way, but when compared to the 1961 GM offerings, they're just plain fugly.

You see, now that Pioneer is another one of those old cars that I think is so cool. "Character" as I put it. I think old mopars are some of the coolest cars. Gangly looking as some of them are, you have to admit, there's a mystique about a design that bold and "different". It's true automotive USA roots man. Automotive evolution if you will. :TU:

I've been thinking and I think I've come up with something that could take the cake. Remember those mid 80's Firebirds with that weird roof? Kind of like the roof on those old early 60's Mercs? With that strange rear window? Anybody know what I'm talking about?? It was horrible looking! :puzzled:

I saw one of these today and thought of this post

Today I witnessed the most uninspiring car I have laid eyes on! The one illustrated actually took a great picture as it is even worse looking in person! Mid-eighties Nissan Stanza Wagon. This car was so ugly I could not find a picture on the internet, this one was for an auction and said it had electrical problems.

    Ugly Ricer Cars :moonu:
