I don't want to jump on a soap box, but people seem to jump towards being a victim rather than a responsible person. Most states that I'm aware of have as-is used auto sales unless otherwise stated. I nearly toasted an engine in a car I bought because I neglected to check the water prior to driving. Luckily the idiot light worked. Yours is an unfortunate situation and I empathize with them, but this was not your fault or intention.
Ok I think I got the answer here. I'd have to say sorry , sold as is , where is, and maybe help him find a rear end . We all know these cars are old and anything can happen . A chance we all take . p
Just to reiterate, no one has asked for anything! I think my cousin called Dana to make him aware of the problem (he did restore the car and own it since 1991, thought he might want to know) and ask what exactly are the specifics on the rear end so we can get parts for it. That's it. Anything else is what ever anyone or this board makes of it. I guess the point is that this car presented so well, and Dana is a very, very straight up guy, as well as a board member, that it was an oddity that this occured. Maybe the car wasn't looked at as harshly as some others due to the above facts. I don't know. I do know I wouldn't buy a car from a few board members that seem to have no concern for other board members or people in the hobby. Dana I would buy a car from you in a second. The turn this conversation has taken just is starting to aggrivate me, not you or the deal. For the record No one wants anything. A biker buddy of mine had some infinate wisdome once when he said "no good deed goes unpunished". Well some days it hits right on the head. Take care Tony
I know how you feel Dana. You wanna say good enough since you sold it at a good price, but you also don't wanna screw anyone cause thats not cool. The fact that your working with the new owner on this is very cool. Why dontcha have the new owner join the board? Then youns both can request parts under the "Parts wanted" and "Pay it forward" subforums. Split the cost's and move on.
Tony, and everyone thanks for the kind words, and yes no one has asked for anything. The only issue here is how bad should I feel for sending a a real nice guy with whom I share more than a few acquantences and a long time love for all things Buick away with a car that broke on him the next day. Granted the car is 32 years old and sh** happens, if I had put 30 more miles on it that would have been me with the bad rear. I still havent heard back as to the severity of the problem and I am anxious to learn exactly what's up. Thanks everyone for sharing your opinions. Whichever way you go, thay are all thoughtful and I appreciate them. Dana
Say what ???!!!!!! You sold Lil Wing ???!!!!! Oh man ou: , That car was sa-weet. D., you are good people man, and besides seems Tony and his cousin are are pretty cool about it. I would definitely buy a car from you, shoot I bought a car from you before (20 yrs ago :Brow: )and was very satisfied with the purchase then. Like everyone said here, these cars are old and things happen. Here ,I'll tell you whay to do, just throw in a set of Stage 1 heads and everthing will be cool. :TU:
Thanks Alex, I had to throw in the stage 1's :3gears: to get you to overlook the white shag carpet uzzled: I Still got a picture of that car hangin in the garage:Brow: D. :TU:
Howdy For me I would show up with my cooler full of my favorite cold beverage when the time comes to fix the car. Have a good time helping a fellow Buick owner fix his new car! No harm no foul just doing what is right by me and mine! Mark Sheppard
Great news talked with Ernie about his new GS tonight and after a few nights of wrenching he's got a nice new set of axles in now. Said it cost him a couple hundred and he wont accept any subsidies. Also, he told me he's got two freshly chromed bumpers coming in next week and he seems really psyched about having a GS around to stomp on, plus his wife really likes it too. Ernie is real nice guy & I could not think of a better new home for the car I've taken care of for the last 13 years. Huge Thanks to Tony for hooking us up:beer And thanks everyone for your input and support. :TU: Dana.
I think that when looking at a really nice car people forget things like the rear end. How many of you out there have checked the fluid in your rear differential lately? I know I havent. Of course my vehicle has moved a whopping 20 feet in the last 2 years, but thats besides the point.
