what color is your car flame red? Mine is getting close to the paint stage. On your taillight gaskets did you have to cut them down because they were to thick, I have been told the repo's are too thick. Here's a picture of mine in the paint booth. Harle :beer

Paint code is "RA" for Flame Red with a Black Vinyl Top. Here is the firewall tag if you want to see it. You will have to turn up your brightness to see it good. Notice that it was built the 3rd week of January 1965--one of the early ones--that is why it came with the different grille emblem on it.

I just finished putting the glove box, passenger side AC duct and trunk opener in last night. Note that it is interior code 157, which is the dark metallic red, so the dash area is painted a dark metallic red unlike the flame red on the outside of the car. Also notice the hand-modified glove box liner. The reproduction ones are for the non-AC cars and I had to cut it and re-make the right hand side of it--the correct one for an AC car had the RH side cut at an angle to give clearance for the AC duct hose going to that vent right beside the glovebox. I did as best I could modifying one of the reproductions--I had to scab one extra piece in the back corner, but it is not that noticeable.

Just finished painting the inside of these and detailing the edges around them. They will be ready to install by Saturday.

Anyone have a useable drivers side AC duct hose? I want the original style, and none of the aftermarket ones look right, nor are they the right size (these are 2-3/4" and the replacement ones at Cars are 3"). I had enough from a parts car to make the one on the pass. side, but I need one for the drivers side now. It doesn't have to look pretty--I can sprinkle it with flat black paint--just need one that is in one piece with no tears.

    Brian,did 65 GS`s have 2 different red interiors?i see some cars have 157 and some 197?

    Thanks

Yes, there were two different ones, although I have only seen the 157 dark metallic red like mine has. I think the other one is a two-tone red. The seat covers are dark red on the outer edges and a lighter red in the middle. I haven't seen it in a car, but have seen pictures of the covers in either the Year One or the OPG catalog.
That was the selling point for me on this car back in '98 when I bought it--it was red with red interior--my favorite. There is something about red interiors that I just love. My '88 F-150 is red with a white side panel and white roof with red interior.

The reason i was asking was because a buddy of mine has 2 65 GS`s both red with red interior but the interiors on both cars when looking at both look like one interior is a little different shade than the other, but not two tone just a different shade red?

    Thanks

I am not sure, but I would be interested to know the difference too. I do know that code 157 is the dark metallic red interior--mine still had all the original stuff in it when I got it (although it was very ratty from sitting in a field for 8 years).

Can you use some duct from a WIldcat? I probably have some extra pcs.
Nice work on that glove box.

Are the 2 different interiors one for the Hardtop and one for the thin pillar coupe?
The Red probably gets darker with age too.

I'm with Brian on this red interior thing. I'm changing the color of my Wildcat from black to red!

The duct in my car is 2-3/4" inside diameter. Let me measure tonight to see how long a section I need and I will let you know tomorrow. I will get a picture of a torn section I have at home too and post it on here. Provided it is the same diameter and is long enough, I would think the wildcat duct would be the same.
Red interior is great, but let me warn you that it is a pain. Red is the hardest color to match up and when you start buying seat covers, door panels, and carpet, getting the right color of red is a challenge. When you go to get vinyl dye to paint your arm rests and dash pad, it is hard to match up the right color too. I ended up buying NOS material to have my seat covers made out of from SMS auto fabrics in Oregon. They also have my door panels there re-making them with NOS material. The stuff Legendary has is not the right color--I know because I ordered it and when it got here it was more of a bronze metallic than it was dark red metallic. I sent them in a sample and they agreed theirs was wrong, but that is all they have. And by the way, all the other places get their stuff from legendary and re-sell it (year one, OPG, etc).
Try finding a set of Buick Tri-Shield front floor mats in red! I have been looking since 1998 and haven't found any! I just found a set of rear ones last month and you don't want to know what I had to pay for them!

I had my Wildcat convertible door panels done by SMS with NOS material and they are beautiful! Seat covers were sewn up with NOS material too. Its the metallic red two tone deluxe.
My Special Wagon is RR with red interior too  It has a rubber floor, not carpet. Eeeezeee clean, just ring out the hose!
I'll get into this parts car and see what it can give up in the duct dept.

Ifeel your pain on the floormats- Gene Guarnere sold me his second to last set for my right arm and 6 toes.

Hey everyone--I need you help finding a right side taillight for my '65. I have been looking for about 7 years now and haven't found one decent enough to put in the car. I have bought 3 or 4 off of Ebay/internet and none of them was good enough to use when I got it. I just got one in the m ail this weekend that seemed great by the guys descriptiong, but it is worse than the one that was in my car when I bought it! I really need to find one before the end of March when I have the car scheduled to enter in a show. I don't need lenses or the center bars for the light--just the main housing with good chrome on it!! I will even take one with light pitting in the painted black stripe area where I can hide the pits under the paint.

Thanks George! I called Fred last night and he is looking to see what he has and getting back to me. He said he sold a perfect set about 5 years ago, but thinks he has another really nice set stashed away somewhere. I will let you know what the outcome is.
I have another question--what is the significance that some of the Skylark/GS cars have the firewall data tag painted black like the firewall, and some have it silver. All of my other cars came with the firewall tag black (matched the firewall), but the other day I was looking at some pictures I took the day I got my GS and the one on it was silver. I had forgotten about that and painted it black. I guess I need to mask it off and spray it silver.
