The world of 1960s luxury cars, huh? I'm quickly learning that there's something to be said about simplicity as I wade through the labyrinth that is my '63 Thunderbird. It's good that we have a hobby though...
The next change for the car is happening tomorrow at 8:30 A.M. now, the guy doing it had a cancellation. So I get to go home, modify the lock rod, and reassemble tonight after a hellacious Monday. Away we go........
Hammered it out. Didn't get to do the detailing I wanted to everything so will be taking it back apart again at some point. Just happy to have a working door lock.
I am! I'm also happy it's not a Continental, because those are even worse. Honestly, as much as I love T-Birds, I like early Rivieras better. I'm a cheap guy at heart though, and I have a problem dropping that much money up front on a car, and Rivs have gotten pretty spendy for your average middle-class guy who has a bunch of cars and has to rent storage for a few.
Restores safes, as well as gas pumps, but everything is for sale. I'll link up his website when I can...one of the safes just sold for $45,000!
Stay tuned....I'll post tonight when it's done. Will be the last real big change I do to the way the car looks.
Oh yeah...pin striping! You know, I was looking at the safes again after I wrote. The black one...the real fine pin striping on the front. It's hard to see, the pics not good. I had a custom van back in the day. Right after I got it painted, I had a guy come and stripe it. Three colors, he did real fine line fancy stuff like peacocks. Dude had a lazy eye, I watched him do it. Like 90 mph, freehand, made me nervous as hell on new paint, but guy could stripe!
Looks Amazing Lucas! I have some big changes that I have been doing to mine. Pictures to follow this weekend...
It came out great, Lucas. I see the pics are in stages, you watched him do it? Did you tell him what you wanted, or just let him go? The big problem is, now if you do any criminal activity, your car will be easy to spot in your town. lol
Nope not in stages, Frank. That's the back, then the front. Hood and trunk look really similar in those two pics, though. We talked about what size and where I wanted stuff done, then picked out basic colors which he tinted. But yeah, I basically told him I want old school slammed car style, my budget, and told him to go for it. Dropped the car off this morning, told him I'd be in after work, and drank some beers with the guy.
I see it now, I was looking mainly at the striping, V shape of the metal and the emblems. I never really think of a trunk having a V shape like that. Plus the emblems are very similar. It's very nice! You think that back emblem should have black like the front? How's your friend? You never updated us.
No black in it, just a reflection. He's doing alright, they took him off his port for a week and put him on pills, but the abscess were getting worse on that plan so he's back on the port for daily injections. But he's working and doing good, for the most part. Thanks for asking.
