Yes you can put in the parts to achieve durability. It’s the valve body governor combination that are the desirable items in the core so you can get the “good” shift points. My understanding is the OG shifts too early for those looking for performance. I am not an expert, but I have done this swap in the past with Monte SS transmissions and have been looking to do it again. I personally wouldn’t be opposed to running the OG code behind a cruiser.
This thread is about swapping a 200R4 transmission into a car with the THM350. The OG is a THM400. These posts belong in a separate thread.
So it seems I am mistaken. The 2004R also had a tag like the 400’s? I just assumed since there was an OG 400, that was what was pictured. Never mind. Learn something new here all the time.
In stock form the OG 2004r will not be the best. It's not got a lot of the frictions you want, and the valve body and governor are low performance. Shifts waaay too soon. I mean it would work, for a while, until something wore out or broke. Driving easy just driving, it might last awhile. However it's fine as a core to be built. Add the hardened parts, a better servo, more/better frictions, a shift kit, modify the governor, and get a decent torque converter and you will have a completely different transmission that will perform and last, without the slipping clutches and poor shift characteristics of the original unit.
Sorry to stir up an old thread, did you use both the heavy and light springs with the modified weights to achieve this rpm ?
Thank you . I’m going to attempt to raise wot rpm shift points by modifying a spare governor, this helps tremendously.
