Agreed Dave, hey...talking about this stuff is way better than watching any debate, huh?

You guys are awesome! As long as I am installing one it may as be correct, I don't like having to do something over again & again. I have done plenty of it. Thanks for all the great research guys.

This one is about as close and reasonable as you could ask for. I think this is what's on my car, now. It was on the car when I got it. I just haven't got around to changing it. It functions ok, but not perfect. There are differences, like Dave mentioned, the original sits lower in the manifold, and has upside down printing on it and MADE in USA. Then there was just a slightly later one with upright printing. If you don't have the $ for an original, but want the look this is what I'd suggest. The real problem is like the fuel senders, it's not totally accurate. So if you have a working original sender this will read lower (or higher, I forget). Over on the Olds site there is an article about adding a resistor to make it read right. The gauges kind of only give you an idea of what's up, anyways.

I remember the originals had maroon hard plastic at top that was flush and the blade came out of that.

Part numbers are Key Bruno. The correct sending unit for a gauge car looks a lot like the in head sensor found on big cars but it’s different. There really weren’t a lot of gauge cars when you come right down to it. I have seen a lot of Stage-1’s with no gauges. I was always puzzled by that.

Frank I had that debate on for three minutes and felt ill. Decided watching sharks chomp on things was much better entertainment.

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

My parts book is dated Sept. 1970. So it shows no revised part #s. Korrie

$277.00 would have bought this one. s-l1600.jpg

NOS for your viewing pleasure. You can see the part that would be in the coolant is larger than the one Korrie posted. Typically, when they change the #, they change something about the part. This upside down imprinted, but it's a fuzzy pic. 100_0475.JPG

I put the 5 blade fan on & changed out the temp sender, with the engine temp at 195 the gauge reads in the center. I have a 2705088E fan clutch does anyone know if this is the correct fan clutch? I want to thank all of you for the help!

Only thing you can do is follow the books on what’s available for a fan clutch. What temp is your thermostat? I always ran 180 thermostats and they always kept my gauge around 1/4 mark. I highly recommend that if you have a 190. 160 can be too cool when weather gets cool.
