Ok, I admit it -- IT'S KILLING ME not knowing. I really really really really really want to see the numbers on that hyd roller especially if they pulled it to 6500 (I want to know for lifter collapse and/or valve float issues) I am also curious on the two flat tappets as well.:TU:

I can feel the smiles from hear. This thread has kept me going with my motor being down at TA since the 16th of december. I got some not so great news this week when I went down there. I was told the KB 357 pistons needed to be replaced, and after looking at the pistons I will never buy them again or advise any body else to get them. Several of the skirts had broken, and the ones that were not broken were out of round. So an additional $575 later I decided to go with forged pistons. Still no total yet.

So I have been patiently waiting on your results because I am still a few weeks away from getting my motor back. So please give me something. I need to be motivated today.

After a nearly all night thrash due to a rod catching wayward alum oil pan, then a three cam thrash at the dyno, all on the first day of a wicked head cold... I feel like I got drug home behind the Suburban from the dyno shop.

Wow, what a day.. you had to be there to beleive it.

First off, Brian worked his magic on Larry's SE STG 1 heads... from .100 to .500 valve lift, they flow within a number or two of the Full port TE's that we did for Rick Martinez here a few years ago.

I don't have all the numbers in front of me now, but they go 236 at .300 lift, which is killer, and top out around 335cfm.

Fluffed the exhaust some and they are blowing 250 cfm with a pipe..

Showed up this AM with the Voodoo stick in the block, easy breakin, no issues.. other than carb was really lean. So much so we just swapped in #26 high speed air bleeds right of the bat, to replace the 30's that were in it. So lean we couldn't even pull it the first couple shots.

Got that under control, and the Lunati Voodoo cam, which degreed in real nice, pumped out some nice 570 torque numbers at around 4200, but the ramp speed started playing havic with the upper end output. Graphing it out, you can see the airflow go flat as early as 5200, and it comes unglued at 5400... I have video.

Best it could do was 536 HP/570 torque.

An ok stick for a 5000 rpm max motor.

9" vacuum at 800 rpm.. motor has 19* initial advance, 34 total. Rough idle.

Thrashed in the TA 413 cam, this particular copy was a little dissapointing in the degreeing phase, as it came up 2.5 degrees short on the intake duration, and it was a bit of a chore to get it installed in the right place.

But it was an ass-kicker in practice.. for a cam that is so close in specs to the Lunati cam, it couldn't be any more different in actual use.

    Smooth operation to 5800 rpm

575 Torque / 574 HP.... Out powers Lunati stick just about eveywhere, except down below 4000 rpm.

Did a few pulls, a little video.. 11" vacuum at 800 rpm, moderate idle quality, noticeable better than the previous cam.

Dialed in the roller stick.. worried, because Ron and Brian had been telling me all week, that they have done hundreds of hydraulic rollers in all types of engines, and they are almost always rpm limited to 54-5600 rpm.. Talked extensively to Cliff Ruggles about his Pontiacs with hyd rollers back when Mike told me he was doing a hyd roller for us.. he used solid roller lifters on his grinds, for the same reasons.. no rpm..

Warmed her up, and suprised myself that I even remembered to swap the 4-7 spark plug wires, even in my weakened state..

Held my breath for the first pull..

    Didn't skip a beat to 5700 rpm..

And tickled the water brake to the tune of 601 HP... and climbing..

let normalize for a few minutes and start breathing again..

Upped the rpm to 5800 on the superflow, and it reward us with a 604..

Pushed the rpm to 6000... and it talked right back at 608... and reached it's peak.

Ron said that it is no exaggation at all to say that only 1 in 10 hyd rollers will rev to 6000+... and we have at least one grind now that will do it.

Final results, no spacers, no cold water, no dyno tricks of any kind

    595 Torque/608 HP.

Solid 12" vacuum at 800 rpm, noticeable idle lope, enough to warn off the ricers. But way better than the Lunati stick.

I predict a 10 second pass on the right day at Cecil for Larry, if he can get it to hook, and we can get him to turn the AC off.

Videos, pictures, graphs, and much more discussion later, we will see how I feel tomorrow.

    I'm going to bed..

(with a **it eating grin on my face :TU: )

Thanks for sharing the detailed tech with us! More info for everyone to gain knowledge from. Jim, you're always great at sharing details that a lot of other folks would keep to themselves. Thanks.

Larry, can't wait to see you get thrown off the track for being too fast!

I always kept a close eye on Larry and Alan since our engine combos were so close. That and they have also become good friends.

But wow this just puts Larry way ahead of my game :TU: not that he wasnt already a few ticks (but the same MPH) or so ahead of me anyway.

Congrats to Larry and Jim and I cant wait to see and hear this engine.
