Yes you can, but here is Nick's build:

    70 block,sonic checked
all oil mods including bypass line
    T/A Sportman rods
    Weisco .038 pistons
    11:5-1 compression
Edelbrock aluminum heads with some cleanup
Comp Cams solid camshaft .608/.624 lift,296/313 duration,112 ls
    Romac balancer,JW flexplate
    T/A timing cover
    T/A SP1 intake
    Holley 950 HP
    1"Supersucker spacer

    Some dyno numbers:
    Rpm Torque HP
    5000 576 548
    5100 574 558
    5200 570 564
    5300 565 570
    5400 558 574
    5500 549 575
    5600 542 578
    5700 536 582
    5800 531 589
    5900 524 589
    6000 517 591
    6100 509 591
    6200 509 590

11.5:1 compression, and a bit more cam I'd say. Also, a supersucker spacer. I'd like to see what that engine makes for vacuum. That was one of my considerations. I have power brakes. Nick's engine will go in a 3200 lbs RACECAR. Mine will go in my 4000 lb. Street car. I bet mine has better street manners and will run on pump gas without a problem.

The 800 lb gorilla in the room in comparing these 2 engines IMO is the heads - Eddys with some clean-up vs heavily-worked TA Stage 1's ("from .100 to .500 valve lift, they flow within a number or two of the Full port TE's that we did for Rick Martinez here a few years ago."). :eek2:

Good Question Bob:TU: I wonder what some cleanup means? I want to see the dyno sheets for my engine.

This motor was built for a racecar with manual brakes that will never see street duty.Hence, vacuum & running pump gas were not huge considerations. As far as head cleanup is concerned, the work performed is comparable to what Gessler offers on his Level 2 package for the Edelbrock heads.

Thanks Nick, I tried to call you. Do you have any more information on the cam? Advertised duration doesn't really tell us much.

    Larry,
Will post more info when I get home from work.On a side note, these were the fully assembled heads from Edelbrock.Out of the box,had 1 bent valve & the finnish machining on the valve seats were less than stellar.

Nick, I'm just curious how you discovered the bent valve. Did you just dismantle the heads on a whim and happen to find the valve? Or was there visible damage? One would think with out-of-the-box heads from a company like Edelbrock you could just bolt them on, but I suppose not. Glad you caught that problem or else you'd be scratching your head as to why it runs so crappy!

Yards, looking at Nick's cam, his .050 numbers, his cam is 266*/276* on a 112. That is considerably different than my 234*/247* on a 113. I made a bit more HP with a cam that, on paper is a lot smaller.

Yeah, but you still removed the A/C from your car.....

WOW! You got lucky, budski. Good God, you would have been chasing your tail trying to figure out why it wasn't running right.

The lash of the solid/clearance ramp makes it seem much bigger than it is. Some say to subtract 10-14 degrees from the solid to get an approximate hydraulic equivalent. HTH

Carcraft ? had a test recently and in the article it was stated to evaluate hydraulic versus solids one must subtract lash clearance (no brainer) for actaul lift. The article also stated to subtract half the clearance as lost duration. .024 lash = 12* duration.

Smarter minds than I can chime in.

OK, it's 32* bigger on the intake side, and 29* bigger on the exhaust. So subtracting 14*, we still have a cam with 18*/15* more duration.
