Well guys all good thing got to come to an end.

I am storing the LeSabre at my uncles farm, my uncle was walking to his truck this morning when he heard something fall in the shed where the Lesabre is he opened the door, looked under the car, and found the muffler on the grown. So what do i do now? I want to put a new dual pipe exaust system on it, but i don't know if i should go with Flowmaster, Magnaflow, or if i should just straight pipe it?

    Dynomax

    Pat,

Don't straight pipe it. It will dirve you absolutely friggin' nuts. Had a 68 Polara with 18" cherry bombs and all it did was resonate and was entirely too loud. Read that as a cop magnet, even if I wasn't flogging it.

You will be fairly happy with the Dynomax turbo mufflers. I just installed Dynomax #17769 3" mufflers onto my dually and I love the sound at part throttle. At idle you can barely hear them in the cab, but you definitely hear them when you open it up just a bit. They also flow very well. 476 cfm is the advertised flow rate.

Find a dealer in your area and ask if they can tell you who has them do that you can give them a listen. I think you will be pleasantly suprised.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Its all in what you like really.I agree with Greg on the straight pipe though,to much noise....no tone.Straight pipe just reminds me of an old farm truck or something....but thats me.Myself though.....I like the flowmasters.

I've never had the pleasant experience of driving or being around a car with straight pipes, but the '69 Boss 302 in our boat at the lake has straight pipes and there is NO WAY I would ever want to drive something that loud on the street. My dad told me that back in the day people would always tell him that he and my uncle had the loudest boat on the lake :bglasses:, and I do not doubt that it still is.
I have a pair of Magnaflows on my '68 and I am pleased with them. I cannot guarantee any mileage or performance gains as I do not watch my gas gauge much, other than to see it drop tremendously fast, and I have not dynoed it at all, though I'm sure the gains are there. But what I can tell you is that at idle with the stock 350 it sounds nice. It's not super loud at idle or anything, but you can tell the car is definitely there. It makes a nice "muscle" ba-ba-ba :)Do No:) sound when pulling up a driveway and it sounds nice when you rev it. It has a nice mellow sound at cruising speed (kind of loud I guess, but not too loud) and really lets loose when you open it up. Everyone speaks of the X pipe, and if it works as they say, I'd also suggest one for the Magnaflows because they do have a slightly annoying drone in the 35-40 mph range. I can tell you that your average people love the way it sounds and always smile a little bit when I throw them a rev or two, at their request of course. I'm running through 2.5 inch pipes as well. There's someone else here (JTY I think is his handle) that is running Magnaflows on his '69 Skylark. Maybe he could give you a thumbs up or down...

    I hope that helps,
    Jacob

I love the Magnaflows I have on my car. They are a bit loud, but when it's during the day, and the windows are up, you can hardly hear them in the car. Unless of course you do some WOT action, in which case they make a loud, yet very low tone sound.

At idle, they are louder than stock. However, they are such a low tone sound, it doesn't seem to bother anyone. Matter of fact, all I get are positive comments from people on it.

If you like driving with the windows down, you'll hear 'em. But, it's a clean sound.

As for drone, there is some around 40-45MPH area. I've also heard that an X-Pipe will cure that issue.

BTW: They aren't so loud, you'll set off car alarms or anything. I'd say that aren't really any louder than Flowmaster, just a different sound.

    chryco63 14's or bust!

I would have to agree with John and Jacob on the 40-50 mph drone with the Magnaflows. I've got them on my '63, and if you're on the highway long enough, it can get pretty annoying. Otherwise, I really like 'em. They're fairly quiet at idle, although since I've put them on (4 years ago), they seem to have gotten progressively louder at idle over the years. The WOT sounds great, and the part throttle is nice too.

Ever since I put my cam in, though, I've wanted Flowmasters... :)

Hey, Jacob, what year/make boat is that?

I'll second that on straight pipes, especially the boat part. Our '62 Chris-Craft (283 Cheby) has the same straight pipe setup, and even with the water in there to "muffle" it, nobody in the back seat can hear themselves think while under way. If I can find a marine muffler for less than one arm and two legs...

Used to have 12" glasspacks on the 2NABOT's 350, and while it was fun to see whose car alarm I could set off (Corvette's every time...:Brow: ), it got old after 12 years, so we went to some Walker Turbo (I think) Dynomax's. Nice sound. Although if I could figure out how, I'd like to have a dead quiet car at idle / part throttle, but wide open at wide open throttle.

My car has a cherry bomb muffler on it, and i think it sounds pretty good, especially since it's a V6, and it only has one cherry bomb muffler on it. I am going to put two of them on when summer hits and i get new brake pads. IMHO, i think it sounds like a V8 at idle. Sounds good.:TU:

That's a term from "back in the day". They were round torpedo shaped mufflers that flowed well and were VERY loud. I prefer the quiet but mellow sleeper sound.:bglasses:

    BuickLeSabre1960 Hot Dogs Anyone?

My brothers '66 Pontiac has glass packs on it and they are not loud at all. The difference between them and the mufflers they replaced is very small

LOL! Well, the cherry bomb muffler on my car is loud, round, and red. They still sell 'em. I bought the one on my car from auto zone about a year ago for 20 bucks. Not bad.

Yep, a heck of a deal, if you get 2 cherry bomb mufflers, you will pay around 40 dollars, and for a high-performance muffler that delivers the sound, it is a stealer kind of a deal!

You know, the nice thing about them is they could fit my Riv without being too large. I need 2 new mufflers badly. I wonder how loud they really are?:Brow:
