Thanks for all the support everyone. Buick_350X is right about the joy ride thing. The cops that Greg talked to said this exact thing and not to get our hopes up. It is out on the national list as well. If they are out driving it around and they havent changed the expired plates they should get nabbed pretty quickly.
I did hunt around ebay but didn't see anything newly listed. If it was just a joy ride id check out any local mud holes, woods or off road trails where they might of taken it to beat on. Id say the biggest problem is cars are so easy to steal. You should not be able to start a car with out the key. Course maybe everyone should take this thread as a learning experience and install some sort of safety kill switch on all our cars. I worked at a limo place once that had switch boxes on the battery that cut power after the car was off for 3-4 mins. To be able to start it up again you had to pop the hood and slap the button. it may be a little inconvenient and look strange that you must pop your hood before you drive anywhere but the down side is really inconvenient.
They things you learn as you age! Josh, I grew up on "the wrong side of the tracks" as some people might say. I was in the Foster care system back in the Sixties and Seventies.......I lived in a home for Kids for 8 years and I know how it feels to be "LABELED" as a nobody. So as a kid I swore that when I grew up I would live my life Respecting people and treating them as I would want to be treated! That is why I have such strong feelings about this truck being stolen. It shows that somebody has no RESPECT for themselves or the person that they are stealing from! I am syre that if the guy needed a ride that bad Eric would have offered him a ride to where he needed to go! But Somebody wants to profit off his hard work with a total disrespect for him! The person(s) that stoled may have a few bucks in their pockets now but that is short lived money and in time they will have to stand before their maker and answer for their actions! Still no word from the cops yet. We have gotten the word out at a few offroad shops and a couple of local truck clubs so we have a few eyeballs looking for it . Just hope that if someone sees it they give the cops a call.
Update Greg and I found my truck this evening. On a hunch we decided to go check out the impound yard. Sure enough there it sits. The part that chaps my a** is that it has at least $8000 damage to the front end. Looks as if they slammed into a building at about 30-40mph. Will know more once I get it back and willl post some pics. On a good note I'm stoked to be driving my Century again.
So they towed it to the impound lot, huh? Boy that is brilliant. Instead of checking the police reports and finding that it was stolen and then contacting you they tow it there and let you figure out where it is. Omaha's finest. Oh well. At least you know where it is. GOod thinkin'.
I really nead to get my baby an alarm system with all these punks stealing cars. Im gonna make it say " you don't know where the kill switch is BITCH!!!"
It sounds like the OPD needs to take a serious look at their lack of communication problem. I hope you can get them to fingerprint it. Sending catch the jerks vibes ~~~~~~
Just a Thought.......... This is just a thought......,Maybe if we all emailed O.P.D. about this then if this ever happens again to somebody they will change their policy about handling Auto thefts. I understand that Police have a hard job ( I don't want to sound like I am knocking them )but I Know that Auto theft is not high on their list of things to do each day. But when you come to think about it ,It should be because of the MONEY FACTOR! We are talking about THOUSANDS of HARD EARNED DOLLARS here! I know in my town they don't really care to do much about a stolen car unless it belongs to one of them or one of their Family members! I am glad to hear that you got your truck back, But I am really sad to hear about the Damage! Worst of all the feeling of being Violated and having to do your own Police work! Them impound guys are fishy folks. They make a living from price gouging folks. Actually most times they hope you can't afford it so they can just keep the car. I am sure he didn't bother to check it out as it may of sat there long enough for him to claim ownership. [ cause you would assume the car has insurance, so after so many days the would pay off on it and declare it lost. ] I found a car like that once. It had been stolen so long, It wasn't stolen anymore. Just abandoned.
