Here ya go, one of the quickest rag tops to ever roll off of a production line. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buic...8QQihZ016QQcategoryZ16124QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Guys, this car is located somewhere around the Edmonton area, if not right in Edmonton. Unless the fellow has moved in the last couple years, since I last spoke to him. His name is Joe and he is a Pontiac nut, and seemed like a real nice guy when I talked to him on the phone. Any guesses what this car will bring? Brian
I would think somewhere between 15-25 K. I could be way off though, I usually dont watch the prices on cars that are going to be out of my range when they arent even restored yet. Its not in bad shape but its missing alot of things, like the whole interior. Im sure its missing a lot of odds and ends peices too.
conv project Agree with Snowbound, 'tho I did get envious while Joe was emailing me from his job in the south pacific while I was enduring the tail end of a western canadian winter! I woundn't care to hazard a guess as to what it will bring on ebay; but (like a lot of other people on this board) I'll be following it with interest... :eek2: PS: best of luck with the auction, Joe!
From the looks of the bottom of the sheet metal on the outside and the floor boards it would take 75-100k to get someone to make it a #1 car turnkey inclusive of parts.
What will a #1 fully restored Stage 1 'vert bring nowadays? (non matching drivetrain)? It's not the best colour combo in my opinion. Love the Cornet Gold, not a fan of Saddle interior though. Needs to be Gold/Black/Black when restored. Brian
Todd, Joe has known of this car since the 80's and kept tabs on it. I guess the guy finally decided to sell it. I assume it was in the Edmonton area for a good while, although it looks like it was sold new in Quebec. Cool find. Wish I had endless amounts of cash, time, space............. Brian
Unfortunately I don't think this will ever bring a true "#1" price with the #'s matching engine and trans long gone. :ball: Still, one that must be restored. :TU:
yeah real nice guy....I helped him ID the car, then when I commented that it didn't have many options (it doesn't I've got copies of the import sheet plus other stuff) he called me a c**ksucker and a@@hole and what did I know, blah, blah, blah. Real nice guy. I can send you the e-mails if you wish Be a neat car. I'm not interested (as I posted on the bench once before) as I'm done with old cars. Car like that needs concours resto, I can't afford that (plus I hate gold as a color). He paid about 6k for the car from what I hear.
Well someone will undoubtfully pay big bucks for this one . Not me, as a Buick fan thats also tired of the parts hunt and the prices . Just imagine what a total rebody would cost if you paid 65.00 per hour . Then find a SS and BB ( still not numbers matching ) you will have like Jim said 100K in resto costs then you have a car that at best can get you 50% of a numbers car in # 1 condition . I am guessing the car will sell for around 20K but it might surprise me . Don't be surprised to see it show up again in a year or so with a nice rust free body and a restamped engine and trans .
Sorry to hear about that Tim. I only talked with him on the phone about my GTO and he was more than helpfull. Short temper I guess........? I hear you on the resto thing. Too much time and work. I just want to drive my '66 and enjoy it. With my '70 GS vert, I was always too worried about hurting it and didn't get to "enjoy" it, if you know what I'm saying. Brian
Very short. The string of profanity was quite amazing. No point you apologizing for him. Maybe he was having a bad day, I don't know, just another jacka** on a planet which has no shortage of them it seems. I have no use for people like that. Glad he is selling it. Hopefully whoever buys the car does something good with it. Its pretty rough. Car like that should stay stock IMHO (as opposed to something like mine where a few changes won't be frowned upon, as people don't care much about 350 cars ).
I dunno about the 15-20K estimate....Remember that one in England a while back that was disassembled, but complete and (I think) numbers matching? As I recall, that guy had a hard time coaxing 10K out of the ebay bidder's pool. Dan
Hi Dan - It's currently in the 'loving' hands of a true Buick enthusiast. I don't know if the restoration has started, but I do know the parts arrived in the USA in a cargo container.
Stage 1 Convert... It is interesting that there are 3 real 1970 stage 1's on ebay today, two of which are claimed #'s matching hard tops and one is a convert without a matching drivetrain. None of them seem to be skyrocketing up into the record price arena (yes I realize that these are either original or non-concourse restored cars). That ragtop is rough though there is quite enough there to make it into something presentable, just about anything these days can be. I have worked on and owned much worse stuff than that. I am kind of wondering when these guys who claim restored 4 speed stage 1 cars are worth north of 130k will start puting their money in numbers match 4 speeds like the 2 on ebay. o No: That blue car on ebay right now seems like a decent enough car and it is price wise something like a 1/4 of what that other $130k blue stage 1 car sold for private sale. The whole thing is really confusing for a collector who would like to own a 4-speed, and like many on this board have literally watched any chance of getting one get smashed away with a gavel at one of these big name auctions like BJ / Mecum or on an inflated ebay auction. I guess I will just have to keep watching these cars raise the bar in value when it seems a bit fishy altogether. Just my two cents Ebling ________________ 1970 GS Stage 1 auto
