And horsepower sounds way better than kilowatt. 500 Horsepower or 373 Kilowatts??

Hessing probably had the same doubts about using a dot instead of a comma...

Going through this thread; on both sides of the pond they're not very consistent.

Using a dot in stead of a comma isn't consistent.

Wheel sizes (although there are a few exceptions) are in inches, ratchets here still come in 1/4" 3/8" 1/2", nails also in 'duims' (inches).

Nails in the US come in the size of pennies, such as a 10d nail. The length is listed after that in parentheses.

See https://sizes.com/units/penny.htm for where that comes from. A 4d nail is 1-1/2 inches long.

And the fact that the usage of commas and dots for numbering is vice versa on both sides of the Atlantic can cause great havoc when exchanging excel spread sheets.... ask me how I know.:Dou:

What no one seems to notice is that a base 10 numbering system is ridiculous. It only matches the number of fingers we have to count on. If we had stopped at 8 (and maybe used thumbs to "carry the one"), we would have had a far more sensible system. Computers, for instance, don't work in base 10 (number of fingers) or 12 (number of toes) or anything but powers of 2: binary, which is easily written in shortened form as base 8 or 16 (hexadecimal).

Oh right, 12 is family system for Addams's only. Never mind. -Larry Adams

Webster MA, and it slightly crosses the Connecticut border. Locals call it Lake Webster.

...or the fact that the US military uses Zulu time (GMT) no matter where their peops are stationed in the world. Bottom line is, people need to be smart and adaptable.

You know what you call things that can't adapt?

Our monetary system is based on increments of 10.

Long before most other currencies were. Sparkplug threads have been metric here forever (but not for love of base 10).
