I saw a pic on the news this morning. I think it was from Ct. A guy had opened his door and there was a 3 foor wall of snow laying against it. At first I thought I was seeing a second door.:shock:
Havent been out yet, but my 2 ft depth guage is covered, can even see where it is/was. I was getting excited as we had a recent rain that washed he salt off the roads, I was able to that the 65 for a quick blast to check the tranny mods, etc...Looks like 6 more weeks of winter!
I think they expect rain here for Thursday, but they have really no idea. My brother got 34" down in New Haven, looks like the coast took it on the chin...
I went to let the dog out this morning, and couldnt open my front door. A drift covered half of it. went out the back and the 55lb dog jumped off the porch and went completely under the snow. It had to gazelle-leap to get turned back around and up to the porch going to take awhile to clean up today. At least it seems to be the light stuff.....
Nah Ken, it's sticky and compacts...I have to clear the chute every pass, and my little Ahrens is submarining and cant cut into it well - no problem throwing it though, if I can get the chute higher than the drifts - I'm 3 hours in and not even half done.
ken : was wonderin how you were doin . got power ? this won't last long so if you've got that not settin too bad . we had about 6-8 inches , freezing rain expected monday - probably sloppy . prayin for no power problems .
just took a shot at the driveway. got the way cleared for the wife's subaru to get out. Jeep is still snowbound. here are the cutlass and Skylark......in the deep freeze til spring yes we have power thanks EDIT: Oh I forgot ... I pulled the ripcord out of the snowthrower about 15 minutes in so had to get out the shovels.....at least we got some fresh air
LoL yea I ran into the same. the deeper you go the heavier it gets. I am in the same boat with a small thrower.
For years (decades actually) I had a Simplicity single-stage 8 hp blower. Everyone told me that you needed a two-stage, that 8 hp wasn't enough... It was a 1964 model and I used it up until about 2003 when I bought a snowblower attachment for my John Deere garden tractor. The simplicity was awesome! In about 1997 the throttle cable broke; I called Simplicity who said that they no longer made it, but they sent me a copy of the engineering drawing, and the address of a company that would make one for me. I sent the drawing to the company, and in about 10 days I had a brand-new cable for about $12. Needless to say, if I am silly enough to live in a place where I need a walk-behind snowblower, I will purchase a simplicity. BTW: If you wonder why you rarely if ever see a Briggs and Stratton engine on a modern snowblower, it is because air filters plug up in the snow, and Briggs will not warranty an engine that is running with no air filter. My old 8 hp Simplicity had an 8 hp cast-iron Briggs. It was fabulous.
I have a little Ahrens with a honest 4 hp Tecumsah...too much snow for it. Doesnt stall, but snow keeps getting in the rope recoil and freezing solid, and everything gets snowbound - the chute linkage, the clutch, the gearshift, the 2nd stage impeller gets snowbound too. I finished, but it was a chore.
2+ feet here just north of Boston and my 11hp Ariens tore right through it. It's almost to big for some smaller storms, but today it earned it's keep for sure :TU:
Got a buddy in Gloucester that told me the same....about 25-26 inches here. Surprised we saw that much this far inland.
Glad you guys are enjoying it. Last season we had over 135 inches, and set 2 records. 1) the most snowfall season 2) the most snowfall in the month of December. p
ALAN, THAT IS A $H!T LOAD OF SNOW. I'll be heading out to Sag Harbor tomorrow to survey the estate. I think we got more than you did. Some pictures will be posted!
