I haven't posted here for quite some time. I suppose you could say that I have been up to no good..... Before you fire off a nasty reply to this thread please allow me to say that V8BUICK.com is the best automotive forum on the net. I have paid my BUICK dues with blood, sweat and carnage to my bank account. Buicks will always have a special place in my heart, but I think this 454 sounds pretty good.

Not trying to bust your balls or anything, but what was the reason for Chevy power? Good deal on this unit? cheaper to build? I would not think twice swapping out to a built SBC or BBC if the right deal came about...

Just curious as to the reason as I see the sig by your name says Stage 2...

I couldn't afford buick engines anymore. Repairing the 455 was more than I could justify spending. On the positive side, Buick parts tend to hold their resale value better than bowtie parts.

It's the middle of winter and you live in Alaska, I don't think anyone can 'bust your chops' too much. Sounds good, have fun :)

Sounds like a 7 banger? Seriously sounds like it might have a dead hole.
Start it in the morning or when it's cold and let it run for a few seconds. Then check each exhaust port. You might find a cold one. Don't burn yourself.

The engine is a 60 over 454, 9.5:1 SRP forged pistons. Heads are 049 oval port cast iron, mildy ported, 2.19/1.88 stainless valves, new springs/retainers, all rebuilt and bowl hogged for bigger valves. Roller rockers, new pushrods and Dart guide plates., Cloyes roller timing set, SFI damper and flex plate, steel LS7 crank, all balanced. Clevite 77 bearings, Moroso Oil pan, Mellings HV oil pump, steel oil pump rod, Fel-Pro gaskets.
Cam is a Howards 248/252 dur. at .050 with 595/625 lift. Edelbrock rpm airgap intake and an 850 demon carb.
The engine was previously in a full bodied nova and ran low 11's. I'll be happy if I can break into the 11's with this motor in the heavier skylark. The air cleaner happens to be in exactly the same place as it was with the 455, perfectly centered in the hole/scoop.

I wouldn't suggest doing any in depth diagnosis based on audio from a cell phone recording. It sounded much better in person.

:Dou: :Dou: :Dou: I will never understand this. Might want to replace the Stage 2 logo with a LS6 one. But hey its your car. John.

    BUICKRAT Got any treats?

    OK, there, Mr. seven banger.

So we bought your parts so you could build a chevy motor???for shame!

Sound real good...do you think the torque #'s will be comparable to your considerable Buick engines? BTW, that s/p converter is a blast!:TU:

    BUICKRAT Got any treats?

Actually, it sounds like # 4 is lean, #'s 5 and 7 are rich, and the plug gap on # 8 is too small.:Dou:

Lets see, I started the swap at 6 am sunday and finished at 7pm monday. Just in time to take a shower and rush to catch a plane back to work at 9pm. Yeah..... peeling the stage 2 decals wasnt high on my list of priorities..... lol. I'll try to do better next time.:Do No:

Steve, what happened to the giant blower on top??? Or was that a different motor?

If so, you need a giant blower on top, itll sit better with the buick bro's. :Brow:

lol.... funny you remembered that. Yeah, I passed on the blower motor. Even though I would have given my left nut for one 25 years ago, somehow now its not quite as cool. Now some hilborn stacks I would have a hard time passing on.:TU:
Swaping the buick for a chevy motor was a difficult decision. But the choice became one of either watching my car sit in the driveway or actually be able to drive it. I opted for the later.

I have to say it sounds real nice.Ive done ALOT of BBC stuff in my younger days, but as long as I can remember Ive always wanted a covertible GS.Well I have one with a 350,Im nearing completion and often think about a 455. But after reading about what needs to be done to them,I can see why you went the route you did.Nice job.

As a purveyor of Buick HP, this chills my heart...

Good luck with it. I guess it's better than the car sitting, or a divorce..

    just barely... :puzzled:

From Concerned in Alaska: Dear Abbey I met the girl of my dreams and things are getting serious. She wants to know about my family and that is where the problem lays.
My Dad is in prison for armed robbery. My Mother is in prison for running a house of prostitution. My sister is in and out of jail for prostitution.
My brother just put a Big Block Chevy in his Buick. What should I tell her?

Dear Concerned! Tell her about your Mother, Father and sister. But don't let her know about your Brother.
