I definitely agree that unless it was rebuilt recently, a paper and rubber kit should be installed. The majority of TH 400 failures are due to clutch lip seal hardening, and leakage. JW
Good points Guys...I was thinking on the same lines....plus it sat for 30 years in Tyler, Texas...seals dry out. Thanks, Mart
Martin, I have a bigblock driveshaft for a 442 that should work with your set-up if interested, I can bring it to BG. Fernando
Depends on what year 442. They used different shafts. The 68-70 shaft is about 1.5” longer than the 71-72 shaft because of the different rearends. The Buick shafts are usually in the middle.
Cheers, did you find your parts? I have a complete 400 shorttail from a 69 Pontiac. I am in West Chester PA. It worked when I took it out .$150
Thanks for thinking of me Fernando, but I won't be there. ...True Brian...71 went to 8.5 rears. ...Definitely Matt. ...Got everything but the tailshaft tsgp51. Thanks Guys, Mart
Here's one, but it says Electonic Speed Sensor...does that matter? Plus it's a little pricey... Thanks Mart
Jim is there anything that you need to alter if you use the Truck or No O ring groove Shafts? Also some say...No lube (oil) hole? Thank You, Mart
No hurry Briz, the Paper and Rubber kit didn't come yet, but I wanted to see if you had a chance to check on the parts TH400. Thanks, Marty....I''ll PM.
Its up there, way up there 12' off the floor on a pallet. Gonna have to push the regal out he way to get a lift. Life keeps getting in the way.
Take your time Briz...gotta put Inline tube Front disc kit on and drill out the head pipe bolt I tried to tighten and broke off. And restoring the 50 year old Montgomery Ward 3 Wheeler PopPop Farmer bought in 1971 when he was 87. I never knew, they were all hand fabricated in a shop in Wisconsin. Thanks Mart
Hi Briz, Did you ever get a chance to check on the Short 9-1/4" Tailshaft? I bought a new 4" Housing. Thanks, Mart
Some of the TH400 short tailshafts on ebay say lube hole or no lube hole. Does if matter which I use on the trans that came with the SF 455 in March 1970? Also some say Electronic Speed Sensor. Does that matter? Thank You, Marty
