    Less belts consume less power.

and far more efficient use of the power that is consumed. grooved pulleys have to drag the v-belt in and out of the pulley as their grip comes primarily from the sides. serpentines not only lose less to drag/friction they also grip each pulley far more securely.

i've heard several times of alternators with spun bearings being capable of keeping the engine from being turned over by the starter.

It puts all the accessories on one side. I'm pretty sure the drivers side header would have to be modified to clear everything packed onto that side of the engine unless you used the Champion or Weber eliminator brackets.

The 455 will use the same belt as the 87 Grand National one. I can't speak for the 350.

interesting. i would have thought you would want a belt an inch longer or so, what with the taller deck on the big block.

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

The one that most catalogs list for a GN is actually 1/2" too long for a GN as the tensioner will be at full extension. Correct number for a GN belt is a 5060635 or 635K6, most catalogs list a 5060640/640K6 as for a GN. Also, thought I'd add that the stock GN setup doesn't clear a points distributor or a small cap Mallory distributor on a 350.
