Is there a good solution for converting a 350 to a serpentine belt system? Would the 86-87 turbo 6 parts work?

that's what everyone suggest, yes. search the board for "serpentine". there are several threads on here about this already.

    Here's what you need.
Crank and water pump pulley from a GN
Alternator from an 86 TPI Camaro
3/4" Spacers for the ALT bracket
    And a water pump for a 73+ 350/231

This is what my setup is and it works great.

That was just a mock up to show that the turbo 6 stuff bolts to the 350.

So is that pulley at the 7 o'clock of the a/c compressor the power steering pump?

Yup. On a GN the pump uses a remote reservoir mounted on the inner fender. I have a couple of these setups, my only concern is if I will be able to get a distributor under the bracketry. It's an issue in the GN world to use a standard sized HEI distributor, but I think it might fit on a 350. I'll find out when I make the swap this winter:TU:

It won't, the interference is between the tensioner and the distributor. Yold have to cut the heck out of the tensioner to get it to fit. If they make an older points style MSD or if you used an OEM points system it might clear but it would be very tight. Someone would have to try it.

Thanks for the info. I'd been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out a turbo setup and had recently decided that Buick had it right with the GN. While trying to find a way to relocate things, I found this thread. It's a sign from the Buick Gods. :)

It must have been a year ago those pictures were first posted on here.

Add on information, if you want to get rid of AC, Champion makes an AC and an AC and PS delete brackets. They are billet and expensive and its rare people sell used one but they do pop up.

Yup. And it was only because of this thread that I remembered it. Learned a few new things which forced some old things I'd learned out the other side-including those pics. :pp

to bring up this thread again. even on the 455 the HEI distributor will hit the tensioner. Fix would be to use Daves small body HEI conversion. or points.

    Good points...

If running a 6AL igniton box (One of the best upgrades I've made!)
Daves smallbody conversions are a great alternitive to the expensive parts it takes to instal the MSD magnetic button in a stock hei anyway so this makes it clearly the choice given situation with needing clearance.

Just curious, why go to the serpentine system? What is the advantage?

Less belts consume less power. Also means only carrying 1 belt. However it does mean that 1 busted accessory can doom the operation.

not to mention if switching from AC to GN setup with AC is about 70 lbs.
