I'm aware of one member making a full blown serpentine setup for the Nail. I think it was Roger?

Running two seperate belts would be a much easier solution. Depends on how much work your willing to put into the setup. With a true one belt serpentine setup your going to need to run idlers, and make the standard roatation water pump work. It's certainly do able, as Roger got it figured out, however I'd bet a lot of work went into his setup.

somebody was building one but i think for the price just the underdrive pully set thats offered would suffice really

Check with Precision Billet Design at precisionbilletdesign@comcast.net Rob Giroux (the company owner) was working on such a setup. BTW: If you talk to Rob, mention that I would be interested, too.

john, i would like to build my own setup, i need to find a pulley to modify a crank pulley from either a sbc or a sbf to work.I havent removed my crank pulley yet and i will in the next few days. i have been looking on making one bracket similar to a march setup that will bolt to the front of the water pump. i havent spent much time yet on this but to have acess to many different engines on stands so i just have to put the time in to design it.. One day john you should come down and check out the turbo nailhead!!!

The GN pulley from GN1 Performance is 1" larger in diameter (7"), but only 3/4" larger (rib to rib (deeper edge)) than the Ford pulley (6") that came with the Billet Specialties kit, so it will be slightly overdriven, should help the 1 wire alternator

Now just have to line everything up

this thread may help, looks like a great setup.

I'm a little further along, Here is a picture without the power steering pump (for the Engine Stand Run). The serpentine set up works with or without PS. Currently working on the External oil pump bracket.
Yes this is more work than I care to admit, but nothing in life is easy...

Wikkid! One day, I'd like that, but I don't have a nailhead, of course. My younger brother, who had his own mill and lathe, could make the parts. Sadly, he's gone, now, and I don't have anywhere near his machining expertise.

    Thanks John, appreciate the comment.

ps. This (the serpentine setup) was done with a 25 year old craftman drill press, Dewalt saber saw, craftman belt sander, and a 6 inch buffing wheels.
The plate is 1/2" aluminum. pss, I'm not a machinist, this is truly a hobby that I enjoy

finished the serpintine belt setup for my nailhead and total cost was under $100. it looks very nice it was cheap and anyone can do it in thier work bench. i will be putting up some pictures in the next day or two but was thinking about doing a step by step break down on how to do it so someone else could benifit. anyone be intersted? i also dont mind making templets of the brackets for anyone either. n/c just maybe $3-4 to mail them.

I took some pictures last night of the setup but havent had time yet to post them. i have the alternator setup two different ways and waiting for the pass side header to come back so i see if i can move the alt two inches further down. I would make all the templets and bring them to school and have a 15 year old student who is currently taking up machine tech at our Technical High School to machine the final products. I was very proud of his work and i want him to relaize something so small to him meant so much to me and opened up alot of doors for regular guys like us. A affordable, reliable and eye pleasing serpintine setup was built by a 15 year old kid with his bare hands..And people always say kids have change.. I can say not all of them!!

heres a few pictures of the setup. The engine needs a good cleanup and parts still need to be polished and painted but still looks good to me..

    Paul,

Nice work on the parts. From what I see, the flat side of the belt will be running the water pump. If that's true, is it running on the bottom side of the pump? That's the ony way the water pump will turn in the correct rotation. From the angle of the pictures, it's difficult for me to see where the idler fits on the belt. Any more pictures with the belt on the engine?

Wouldn't the belt actually need to go around the top of the water pump for it to turn the right direction? That is nice work on the parts by the way.

You're right. I was thinking about another home made serpentine setup that I saw at the ROA meet in Hershey last year. It was made with two idlers, one on each side of the water pump, but that water pump assembly had a ribbed pulley as well. Running the belt under the pulley will cause the water pump to rotate in the wrong direction.

Yup, the pump's gotta turn clockwise as viewed from the front. It looks as if with a ribbed pulley the pump could be driven from the top and the setup would work.

    what a great link..
hoping to have the bugs worked out soon. havent spent any time on it in the last two weeks,
