I just felt the need to post this on here. I have been talking to a "Jim Webb" from Georgia. He has been negotiating back and forth over clutch linkage for my Buick GS400. Upon further investigation today and last night I came to the conclusion that it is in fact a scam. This guy was really convincing. I do not fall for these situations, but this guy knew what he was talking about. If I put the post out here on the forum to find the parts it would suggest to me that this individual is somehow on this forum or able to be. Just wanted that to be known.

If a board member contacts you thru the board, it would show as coming from V8Buick, not a private email address. Members do not have access to your email address, but can email you thru the board's software.

Post up some of the communications you received, it would be interesting to see how convincing he is.

Did you put your Ph # in an ad here? I would never post my #, use the PM or board's email function to provide that when necessary.

O.K. so the name is actually Jim Webb that is the first thing I need to clarify. I have no idea how this person got my email. I put an ad in "parts wanted" looking for the 4 speed stuff for my car here on the forum and got a direct email from this individual. We emailed back and forth about the parts and last night the grammar in his final email was off so I dug a little deeper and figured out it was fake. The final email had an address for the payment of an empty lot in Georgia....

I was wondering what "Jim Weiss" name was doing in the title. I hope the thread title gets changed. Copy/paste the correspondence with this Jim Webb on here.

    I have...
It took me about 20 seconds to find your details on the internet, mister M.
Including your house address, names of relatives and the company in Cl**** where you work.
You are all over the place.

I didn't think it was Weiss. I thought this was a bogus post.

I can find lots of people on the net too. The point was that it started with a post on here. I was simply trying to make it known it was happening.

What is it that you want me to "be more careful with"? I'm all over the place? Yes, my profile could lead you to all the answers, but then again I have nothing to hide.

That was a different post, not the one we are discussing or rather you are dwelling on. I thought this was over...

Maybe he can also post you undie preference and shoe size while he's digging.. I would just delete all the correspondence he has had with you and keep motoring on.. A few years ago, there was a guy that stopped at my current house wanting to buy my 72 GSX clone. I asked him how he found me and he said he did a search on the internet. I was a bit miffed but I told him he was about 12 years too late as the car rusted so bad the frame split and I junked it. He then got nosey and asked to see what I had in my garage..That's when he was told to beat it. He claimed he was from western NY or something..People want things, they will find it out..The only way I look for addresses etc is if I am going to buy parts and pick them up. I don't bring people to my house but will meet them in a public area with camera's and I usually have protection.

Good move, telling him to "beat it". I hope you took a plate number from his vehicle as well. Our shop sits 200' off the road and, when I work in there with the doors open, I often block the drive with my truck or pylons so people can't just drive up. My friends know enough to just drive around the blocks and know enough to never bring someone I don't know to our shop.
It's a shame to have to be that way, but there are just too many scumbag thieves out there.

well said, I'm about 50' off of our drive and the door is 90 degree from line of site. yet the metal collectors still rubber neck as they drive by. I have game cams hidden. holds 6k pics.each. :kodak:
