I was wondering how many people on the boards have small block chevys or big block chevys in their buicks?

I have one in the 64 convertible but not for long. Tri-shield is building a level 2 motor for it to be installed this spring.
I bought it from my friends dad that way, and it was in it when he bought it 18 years ago.

  3. Very few on THIS board, and I've yet to see anyone "brag" about it... Ed's 64 came that way when he bought it. You were kind of embarassed to open the hood when you stopped by the house with it, weren't you Ed?

    Reverse the role

I have a small block Buick in a '55 First series Chevy pickup. It's had one in it since 1971. Chevy lovers think I'm crazy!

    I feel shame

It will only have a 66 Chevelle 12 bolt 3.73 rear come summer and that is because it will has a 530 hp Tri-sheild motor in it. :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: all day long

Thats cool man i got a 64 skylark also. Its got a solid cammed 327 in it now with a turbo 350. Its also got a 10 bolt chevy with 373. I actually bought it from the junk yard for only 500 dollars with the original 300 with a blown head gasket. If the car on your little pic by your name is your car its pretty similar, same color. Its got factory buckets and tilt. I think i scored pretty good.

my 74 vert lesabre had a perfect working 455/400 combo. i sold the combo to one of the board members.
now it has 1996 SBC with the factory roller cam and all of the TBI and AOD tranny from a 1989 chevy silverado pick up truck installed.
i am in the middle of trying to get my new body parts painted so i can get it back on the road. it runs excellent.
by the middle of summer i will have the ford 9-inch disc brake rearand installed. the posi and 3.25 gear should be a nice addition.
the 74 lesabre vert that i used to drive was powered by a SBC327/350hp and a 700R4 with a 2.72 gear in the rear. with 235/75/15 tires it had no problem getting over 20MPG with th top down and loaded with campin gear while towin' the ski-boat to the lake.
    1278 rpm @ 55mph.......but who only drives 55?
    no regrets.
i prefer buicks styling as far as body panels and interiors go, but i love chevy engines and the reliability i have got from them. the old 327 logged at least 320,000 miles before the odometers brike in both car that i had put the motor in.
when the 327 was fresh, i used it in a camaro that was to the floor most of its life. then after i put the camaro to rest in the field, i stuck the motor in the 74 vert.

    score!!!!!

James I think you scored on the 64. If it has the console in it the seats and that alone are worth $500. Do you have any pics? That is the 64 convert in the pics. It has the wrong seats in it and use to have a white interior that someone changed to black.

I bought BBC for my 67 tubbed project a few years ago because I got a great deal on it, and it's ready to go.
I never put it in though. I just can't bring myself to do it. :(

I don't mind seeing a chivvy powered Buick, and wouldn't think any less of the car. But I just couldn't do it myself.

I think my BBC would be " :jd: :grin::grin: " too.
492 ci, aluminum heads, solid roller cam, etc.... never been fired, ready to go.

I just can't bring myself to drop it in my Buick
I have a Chevy freind that wants it big time, but he can't afford it. We have a deal..... if he provides a car, I'll provide the engine, and we'll take turns ripping up the drag strip with it.
His dad has a 10 second SBC powered Malibu thats been sitting in IL for 2 years. Nothing wrong with it. His dad just doesn't have time to run it anymore. He keeps trying to talk his dad into letting him bring the car back to OH so we can drop my BBC in it and have some fun. It just makes sense..... his car and my engine are both just collecting dust 400 miles apart. They need to be introduced to each other. :Brow:

Rick - Seems like you shouldn't have too much trouble selling that 492"!! Sounds like an easy high 9 sec. engine.:TU: :TU:

There has to be a Camaro or Chevelle owner out there in need of a new bullet!!:bglasses:

You hit the nail on the head Scott. It was built to put a low 10 sec street sleeper Nova in the 9's. The guy I bought it from went to drop it in, and the headers hit the column shifter linkage and he didn't want to modify anything, so out it came. He is loaded, and sold it to me very cheap. (about $5K, with a fresh TH400 trans)
Sounds like alot of money, but I know it would take probably $9K-$11K to build it, so I considered it a steal and had to buy it.
Thats pocket change to this guy. :(
The Nova it was built for is awesome. It runs 10.0's, and looks like a grocery getter. Beige paint, bench seat, column shift, white vinyl top, no visible guages .. etc.. Simplly a work of art, and a real shocker when you see how it performs. He doesn't have a cage in it, so he can't do much real racing with it. He DID have to tie the frames together though. Every time he lauched, the passenger door would pop open.

I stuck the engine on eBay once awhile ago when I saw a 455 on the board here for sale that I really wanted to buy, but it didn't get much action. I didn't expect it to though. I wouldn't buy a high dollar Chevy engine from a Buick guy who doesn't know much about the "guts" of it either... especially on eBay.
I haven't tried to sell it other than that one time on eBay.
I firgure if I hold onto it long enough.... I'll stumble across a cheap car just itching for a BB, and end up with a very low budget 9-10 second play toy. :Brow:

If anyone is interested in it, I'll sell it for what I have in it though. That cash would definately kick start a few of our Buick projects! :Brow:

You'd have to kill me first in order to put 'chebby motor in my Buick.:af:

Only thing I like about them is that the water pump and oil pump are completely seperate from the timing cover. The water pump on my nailhead has chewed up my timing cover twice in the last 28 years that I have owned my Buick.

I have a buddy in Denver that has a 67' skylark with a BBC in it. Thats what he knew so thats what he built. We are slowly trying to convert him to Buick power though, lol, and I think we are making some progress. In my opinion, it isn't the way I would do it, but who can argue with a 9.60 @ like 140(?) Stock frame rails with ladder bars ??? Oh yea...........thats at Bandimiere(sp) and 6000' + feet of altitude too. I respect that, no matter what motors in it.

I will never own a buick with a chevy engine, and if I buy one, I will take it out and put a buick one in. Now if I owned a chevy, I would put a buick engine in the chevy, only because im a die hard buick fan:grin: even if i bought a ford, I would put a buick motor in it, so no matter what kinda car it is, I would have something buick on it:3gears: but if i owned a buick, it would be thoroughbred!
