I just throw away parts that I have too many of.I had 2 boxes of 71-72 front bumper parking lights. No one was really interested and I only keep the 70 items. I had many parts and even 6 complete 350 motors that I tried giving away..Everyone tried beating me on price..Much was free pickup and people didn't show.. At least I got 60 bucks for the 350 motors....Sad,but when we sell,I am not taking all of it with me..Same goes for the Beetle parts I have.I have 7 parts cars and plenty of parts..You have to do some ridding at some point.

Got a start on mine yesterday. Why is it so damn hard to let some of this stuff go? I picked a headlight switch that had been setting covered in dust and cob webs for years. tossed it in the trash can. stopped in my tracks and went and dug it out. Started moving parts from one shelf to another but didnt make any more room or less clutter. Look to the other side and cringed. Overwhelmed I shut the doors and turned off the light until tomorrow.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

I got sick and tired of holding on to so much stuff and a few weeks ago I took about 3 trailer loads full of stuff to the dump. Its hard to let all this stuff go but I feel sometimes it owns me I don't own it. I have a lot more to go through but I am determined to clean out and simplify. I am sure I will at some point wish I had kept some stuff but as I get older I realize I am not going to be fixing up many more cars.

Briz- you have described a full day of indecision in my garage. A good day last month was spent sorting bolts, switches, thermostat housings, alternators, wiring harnesses...just made a bigger mess!

Briz, I do the exact same thing about tossing then retrieving stuff from the trash can.

What's even better is when I put an ad on here with no takers then throw it away, take it to the dump, good with getting rid of it, hop on here and there's a parts wanted ad for it.

If someone locally does come to buy something I'll throw in other parts for free just to get rid of them.

I've been hoarding Buick parts for over 35 years. When I lived in North Quincy in the late 80's I bought my first GS hood. It sat in the kitchen under a sheet up against the wall behind the microwave
I was living on the 3rd floor.

It was fun explaining that to the neighbors I passed in the stairway!

I had the same issue, so I called up my buddy Jay (Das Rottweiler), he brought his van, and now he has the issue I used to have.:D

My views with extra parts has changed. I used to buy anything buick that was local and I had a big hoard. I've realized I'm further ahead keeping the 50 bucks in my pocket and the parts at the other guy's house.

I always feel better after sorting and organizing old bolts, nuts, fasteners in my shop. Having them all in labeled containers tames the greater chaos to a certain degree.

Went in there today. walked around in a circle, grabbed the trash cans to take to the dump. Came back fully intending to get back into it but didnt. Told myself I needed a good nap first. Now its dinner time and to late to go out there. Maybe tomorrow.

Yeah I'm guilty of dumster diving to retrive things after tossing stuff out. I did post and give away a 455 crank and th400 this summer and a few other things but didn't make a dent. I got a 94 probe gt that I've been trying to sell that is quite nice but needs some tlc that is getting close to getting driven to the junkyard. Kills me to toss buick parts but can't take it with you

This thread inspired me to at least move the parts car and get 1 back inside again.

Now I need to figure out how to get 1 more spot opened up.

    Instant garage addition!!
I added this 2 years ago. I keep my tractors/implements, dirt bike, and some other big stuff in there to free up space in my garage. I installed a roll-up door in the opposite end so I can go in from either end. I absolutely love it, might get another one or two!
It's 40 ft long, enough for two Buicks.

Those containers are great for extra space.

I had a cargo trailer parked behind the barn for storing four wheelers, ride on mower and all landscaping tools for around the house. Loved it, wife got tired of seeing it from the kitchen window (3 years never moved), so I sold it.

Everything in it ended up back in the barn.

Look at the glass half full! At least you guys have your rides indoors! I've acumilated so many parts that I've pushed my projects outside. I'm always having to explain why I have boxes of car parts on the TV stand, fireplace mantle, porch, etc.

Here I thought having a few boxes of 64-65 parts in my basement was bad. I can see most of my garage floor......then again, I only have one daily driver at the present time.

Planning to divest myself of those parts boxes this winter.

Got a good start on the clean out and re organize project. Started at the right front corner of the picture and have worked my way around to the left rear corner. Made one full load to the dump and the scrap pile out back has grown by estimated 1000 pounds. The Riv parked in the middle of that mess and not there has to be room for the Wildcat and the Riv. Found 3 sections of heavy duty home depot shelving at the local scrap yard for .15 a pound to go in the covered area behind the garage. Engines , transmissions will go on pallets over head. Also have a pick up truck with a bed full of wildcat parts to go on there too. This , like many of my other projects has snowballed in a big way.
