Well,if a Platinum Level Judging ever comes to fruition I am confident your efforts will be recognized there. Very well done.
Brett Lots of patience. I sanded it down with 150/220 where it needed and then about 4-5 coats of 2k high build primer. Used bulldog inside and in corners before primer. Sanded out any imperfections, then wet sand with 600 and about 2-3 costs of DD9423. I love the sheen of that paint.
WOW ! The whole deal is gorgeous ! but those Red lines & Buick Mags with the white REALLY set the car apart IMO
Ho many of these 69's had a dashpot? What exactly is the function of the dashpot? Is it to keep the rpm from dropping to quickly and prevent the car from stalling? I might install one if so, because sometimes when it is hot out and I goose it quick to lurch the front end, when it comes to rest it stalls. No so much anymore but with my older carb it did.
I wonder if this is also something you could use on interior pieces such as dash bezel, radio bezel, bottom steering column cover, door panel backing plates etc.
Ken, according to manual all 69 skylark/GS received the dashpot, different part numbers for auto/manual and engine size and yes does exactly what you stated keeps from stalling on sudden drops.
I would not use this on large area or where you had to stop at an edge or create a seam. You would need a huge sheet to avoid that. IMO the result on a large area that is easily seen like s radio bezel would look grainy and not very good. Vacuum chromed or painted is best on those parts.
Interesting. Since I am running a 70 455 and it has the same intake as my 400 did, I guess I could try installing one. I'm running a performance jetted 800 cfm 1972 QJ. Will the stock dashpot work with this combo? I'm thinking everything should still line up, no?
Thanks for the advice. I've seen guys use a testor's chrome paint pen for this kind of stuff, but I feel like that might require some Valium prior to use.
Has it been that long? Time moves quickly, but you're doing a much more detailed and professional restoration than I would've been able to do. gary
Yep, long time Gary, seems like forever. More Updates, Got the new wiring harness ready for install. Thought I would show pics of the tach wiring harness connection in case someone needed it (it's referenced in manual). I know I looked for some pics at one time and could not find them. I had a NOS connector 2973778 to use, you need a connector here, removed green wire from headlight switch into the connector and plugged into tach wiring harness. Installed fuses, NOS Circuit Breaker and NOS correct Tung Sol Flasher before harness install.
Brake booster and master cylinder installed. The Master cylinder is NOS correct part number and code, the booster is the original back cover with correct date codes, the front cover was replaced with an original mint piece which I waited over 8 months for the plating guy to find one this nice with no pitting and a clean Delco stamp. The MC cap installed in the pic I am not using. I have a NOS Cap and Gasket to use. The booster hose I bought long ago was advertised as NOS but I can't be sure it is, it does have a KV 11/32 GK2 SAE J1403L stamp, not sure what that decodes too, but this could have been added.
While it was open and easy to get too, installed the front speaker, relay, glove box light retainer and the courtesy lamps . The speaker bracket, relay cover and glove box parts were all re-plated. The front speaker, courtesy lamps were NOS parts.
