Terry- I don't know if you still have your original... I have had good luck soaking them in carb cleaner, the 1 gallon cans made by "Gunk". Then I polish it up. Not perfect, but an original part in "near" NOS form. Car is coming along nicely!
I don't feel worthy to view this thread. Is there anything not nos on this resto? I want close up pics of any speed nuts used on trim. If they are not nos I'm giving thumbs down.
George, mine was toast, end was just hanging on and twisted or I would of tried to save it. I did keep it though.
Gas Tank Installed - NOS Sending Unit, Gasket and Retaining Cam (Note the A Stamped in Ring). The Gas tank straps are also NOS and only a few pair I have seen with the original type galvanizing like they would of come, most are the shiny clear galvanize or zinc. I included a couple pics of the markings on them. Patton pad.
Tank Installed. I attached a pic of where the ground screw went because I searched for this pic many times trying to figure out where it bolted after I removed the screw and forgot. Hopefully someone will need to reference it.
NOS Power Steering Hose Installed - Reproductions I found were missing the large cushion is that common? Worried about high pressure on a old hose but well see what happens. Also Duane's PS Tag - Plug for you Duane...lol
That's about it for now, took my half day of posting now back to work. Working on headlight bezels and starting the convertible top frame build. Will post more as I get them. Thanks for checking them out...
Received carb back from Ken at Everyday Performance, super quick service and communication on getting this carb re-plated and rebuilt in less than 2 weeks with mailing included. Came out great. Also had him install a NOS cam #7038755 (Fast Idle Cam Program 9-C-2 on the package). Previously installed was also the very hard to find NOS Vacuum Control #7038237. The originals are more of a gray plastic than the white plastic ones that are produced now, can tell the difference easily. Also NOS correct rubber air cleaner/carb gasket 1230747. Installed
Got around to finishing up the fuel tank vent lines. If you carefully cut off the gray foam from one of those foam chiseled paint brushes it works perfect rolled up tightly as the restrictor plug for the large tube.
Terry I'm in awe! First time seeing your thread and I just read it start to finish. WOW! What a project and what a labor of love. Coming from a guy who regularly gets beat up on this forum for building a very "no longer original" pro-touring GS, my hat is off to you sir. It's a honor to see how the other half lives. Please keep those pics and updates coming.
Assembled the front fender Eyebrow molding. I had a set of NOS pieces that had some light scratches and did not realize that these and the hood pieces are actually chrome plated on the face and edges until talking to Adam about polishing them. Instead of polishing I decided to get them re-chromed, they arrived in today's mail and came out nice. Only update I have, working on parts..
Finally got some time for updates...moving along slowly but moving Got the shroud and the radiator top plate finally finished/painted. Got some other things to get installed before putting these in along with radiator and hoses.
Finally got around to completing the headlamp doors/bezels, what a pain with the taping but they came out super nice.
Finished the front end work, torques, cotter pins, grease, decals etc, and got the car back on the ground and off the jack stands. Time for some exterior and interior work. I installed the side markers and got a couple pieces of the trunk trim installed and trunk lock. All correct original or NOS plugs were installed in the body.
This is actually the first time I had the doors and trunk open since I got the car back from paint over a year ago. Plan is to start the wiring and the car finally got it's pedals back after I installed a new firewall insulation pad. Got lots to do now that I can get in the car so hopefully some more updates in the next week or so... Thanks for following.
