I think somebody with a real stage one should list theirs with a 10,ooo reserve and make a note that this is a real one not a fake restamped one that has been listed on ebay.(check completed listings) That way the buyer will see it. Then cancel the auction after his ends since the reserve was not met. Thats one way to get the word out.
In looking through his auctions, I see several transactions for 70-72 A body Buick parts- both bought and sold. I don't see any other car parts off other makes/models. Should I dare say it? Is he one of "us"? uzzled:
that's nothing. there is a 70 cutlass w-31 on ebay right now and the seller says its a matching numbers car,but a fellow on realoldspower.com has the original motor to the w-31 in his garage. :eek2: some of these jerks just think everybody is as dumb as the last person they ripped off.
Gee If it is bothering everyone so much, just put "This is a FAKE, why are you not saying so?" in the a question to the seller.   That ought to get his attention! :Smarty: :TU: It is a nice carb, but are the re-stamped numbers worth more? I guess we will see (I can't see it worth $500 though)... o No:
Just sent this to the seller: **************************** I thought you might be interested to see that this carb auction has attracted a lot of attention in the Buick community: Go to V8Buick.com and look at thread Restamped Stage 1 carb? under Ebay Parts and Cars. It's a very nice carb, but very much appears to be a fake in appearance and in its origin. If someone wants to pay for the quality of this carb knowing it is restamped that's one thing, but taking advantage under the guise of caveat emptor doesn't seem like a great idea for someone with as reputable a feedback rating as yourself. Thanks for listening... **************************** Hopefully he'll take the hint and state in the auction that it is most likely restamped.
   Numbers matching means just that; the numbers match. If the numbers were never tampered with, it's impossible to prove the parts came from another doner car of the same year. Been there, done that. All some guys need is the VIN tag to start a total restoration....
re-stamped carb. Hey guys. I do think the correct winning bid on that carb. was $697.00 because i was watching it and stated that it went for almost as much as a 70 GS grill. :eek2: Tony 70 STAGE 1 13.43 @ 102
Really..... Heck, who wants to pay me $2,500 for a real 71 stage 1 carb (1830) rebuilt by Osborne! I figure the real deal should be worth triple over a fake.
Hmm.... That makes the $250.00 I paid for the eBay carb (post #8-bottom picture) look like even MORE of a deal.
Okay.... the seller made good, right? I think we can move past this now....the board served it's purpose... :TU: The seller emailed me and I'm copying and pasting the message (he's not registered) at his request: HI Brett, There is still alot of noise on v8buick about this carb. I am not registered with v8buick so maybe you can get the word out. You can copy this message if you like. I immediately revised my auction as to the renumbering on the carb. It is from the "carbdoctor". I also got permission from carbdoctor to use his photos as explained in my second revision. It seems that I'm still being put down about various aspects of the auction. I didn't buy it to resell it as an original. Everyone of you saw it last month when I won it. Also, I put my 500 reserve at what I paid with shipping just hoping to break even and as of now I will only break even. Actually I will lose some due to the high e-bay fees not to mention Paypal fees. I don't know what more I can do. I bought a second 246 carb and therefore I just don't need this one. I call it renumbered because that is what the rebuilder calls it. I don't know how it was done. It looks good to me and will serve fine until I find an original if ever. My auction explains it clearly and any bids can be retracted. No one is being forced to bid. It is a very nice carb that can be bolted on and run perfectly, is show ready, and looks correct. Some of us buick lovers want to get our car looking and running good. And everyone is right. As long as the renumbering is always disclosed, we can have a few more nice stage 1 gs's and make these cars a little more popular than they are now and that helps the value of all our gs's. Thanks and please pass the word with a new thread. Thanks
I respect the seller for coming forward like this and letting everyone know the whole situation. I just wanted to make sure no one bought this thinking they were getting the real deal. I would like to thank all the members that got involved in this and helped get the issue resolved. :TU: Dustin
