Restamped Stage 1 Carb?

The seller fails to mention in the Ebay auction that this carb was restamped.
In my opinion it was. The area around the number was clearly ground down because you can see the line the grinding created.

I have a 70 Stage 1 carb the is legit and it does not have that line. The numbers also look screwy on it.

I emailed and asked if it was restamped. No reply yet.

If it was he could have atleast included that info. Since that is the most important part of the auction to verify value! :spank:

I agree Dustin! Looks like a carb from the "carbdoctor" on Ebay. Even looks like recycled pictures from the old auction! :spank: :spank:

Maybe someone can inform the high bidder when its over

You might want to check WHO the seller is--
it may NOT be "carbdoctor". (Before you beat up the wrong guy) Pete

Pete- not trying to beat up the carbdoctor at all. What I suspect is that the seller bought this from the carbdoctor and is re selling it as a real carb. The carbdoctor always states in his auctions that its a re stamp. No problem with that at all

    Sorry,Jason,
I misunderstood  my wife won me a correct carb for my 72
BBB which has really transformed my car :TU: and I couldnt
be happier with "carbdoctor's" work. The suspect picture
LOOKS like carbdoctors pics---which SHOULD BE an
outrite BAN for :blast: the person doing such a thing but
EBAY isn't good about policing this siht.I know other auction
sights would ban you for doing such a practice. Pete

To those of us that have the original 246 carbs, its a slap in the face :af:

    If its indeed a restamp

I'm no expert on S1 carbs, but did you see that sellers feedback? It's almost impossible to have a rating of 100% with over 300 mostly BUYER feedbacks. I'd buy from this person any day if I needed something.

    A couple "2242s" for comparison...

I always thought the date code should have been stamped underneath the part number, no? Look below and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hey, give the carbdoctor some credit..at least he tells ya they've been restamped.

This is an NOS 2242 I sold in Hemmings last year:

And here's the 2242 I plan on having rebuilt. I scored this excellent rebuildable core HUGE off of eBay a couple years ago when no one else bid on it...got it for a song:

I was just looking at the #'s of the 246 carb, and the top of the 4's are different stampings as well as the 9's
I guess that doesn't really mean anything, they could have had several dye's

Take notice on my carb picture that Pat posted that there is no grind line above the 7040246.

I got a reply back from the seller.

This was his reply when I asked him if it was restamped.

"I am told by the rebuilder it was renumbered but I don't know how it was done. Thanks"

In my opinion he is just leaving the most important info out of the auction. Therefore he is trying to get big money for a carb that is worth JACK. I dont care if he has 3000 Feedback he should state in his auction that the rebuilder said it was restamped. :Dou:

    Big no no.....

I agree with you. I'm just surprised he did it.

I wonder if it's his first transgression?

Can someone explain the breakdown for the Date code? :Do No:
Is the last digit the year? Thanks Pete

If it's a private auction how can you get into touch with the winner of the auction to let him know what he has just purchased? I think what the seller is doing is pretty lame, obvioulsy he is trying to make some money on this thing.

    Pete,

The 4 numbers under the part number break down as follows:

On my 2 carbs pictured in post number 8 we have 1391 and 2511 . That breaks down to the 139th day of 1971 and the 251st day of 1971.

Pat's 0720 breaks down to the 72nd day of 1970.

    Hope that helps.

More than likely why it's a private auction.

    Buyer beware, right?

I received a reply from the seller and stated that he checked with "his rebuilder" and that it was a restamp. I advised him that he needs to do the right thing and modify his auction.

I do not know much about such things as restamping but I am very impressed that you guys do,I would have never picked that out in a million years, that is why I ask questions here as there are some very bright Buick people here.

Thats why we are called "know it alls" on here  Seriously, if you have a question please feel free to ask. I'd rather look like a bonehead asking dumb questions, than to buy something overpriced and be a bigger bonehead. No one will cut you down, but we may joke a bit,but we all are here to help out our friends.
