I just pulled mine off the car last night:TU: Looks like the brakes were done just before it was parked. They'll just need to be cleaned up. Anyone know the min measurement? I hope there good:pray:

    Thanks

I just edited the first post- as in a month or so the link will NOT be valid. To save on bandwidth, someone should go through this section and 'clean' it out...

Mr Big asks, "Put another way, did all 70's have (2) piece rotors?" No.

"Could these be the original rotors?" When was your car built?

I hate to burst anyones bubble here but these are not really new to the market place. Assuming the $259 is for a pair then I think they are way over priced. Some of you know me and know what business I'm in. I sell these rotors and many other parts from the very same manufacturer and every thing I sell from them I am confident in the qaulity. I also carry the caliper brackets, backing plates, parking cables and occasionally have 4 piston calipers and much more. On the pre bent Lines I offer a min of 20% discount to all V8 members.

As for the shipping on the rotors it depends on what part of the country your in. The $25-29 is mainly the midwest- to east and it will be upwards of $60 out west.

If anyone is serious about these rotors I will price them and most definatly beat the price of $259. . I also have them available in Canada and shipped to you from within Canada. LMK. Marcel

The car in question is my 12B car. I have a stack of repair invoices (from the original selling dealer) for this car back to day one. That with the overall condition and mileage of the car, it seemed unlikely the rotors were replaced.

    Mr Big,
According to the Chevelle guys the change over was sometime in the Late March- early April of 1970 time period. I am not sure but I think the Pontiacs also followed this trend.

Maybe there is something sited in the assembly manual.

    70 Assembly manual page 5-6.1

Lists both one and two piece designs, has a note stating they cannot be mixed..

That note was added 8-20-69... No info as to a superceed date. I assume this is yet another one of those "use that box till they are gone, and then go with the new one" changeovers, that are often hard to pin down as to a date.

It is the last revision note that is on the list, all prior revisions were earlier in 69..

In my experience, I have seen only a couple of 70's with the two piece rotors. That means either they were not common, or they had all been changed to the later one piece design by the time I saw the car.

I have seen/worked on a number of STG and GS455 cars, built prior to 1-70, with low miles, and original one piece rotors with the groove. One was a 09C Stage.. this one, and 1 other that I know of have the original owners, and swear they have had nothing more than a rotor turn and pads on the car.

Nothing definitive here, just my experiences and what's available in the Assembly manual.. '71 Parts manual lists both types for 70.

I had always assumed that was a very early changeover.. I had always associated the two piece rotors with 69 cars..
    more so than 70's.

I have one complete setup in the shop, that I took off a 69 GS 400 in the mid 80's.

Just as I was walking back into the shop after writing this, I spied my 70 STG, and pulled a front wheel..

    10D car

    2 piece rotors..

    Then..

    55K mile GS 455 Convert...

    01D car

    One piece rotors..

I suspect the 09C stage owner might have a faulty memory... and he was known to be hard on brakes.. he is not with us anymore, so I can't call him to ask again..

I appreciate the input from both of you (Duane and Jim)
From what I read here it looks like the one piece could be the correct style for my 12B car.

I'll spin em (true) and run em.

I'll look close at these (2) piece units when I get around to my 8D 70.

    Thanks for the help!
