    Scott,

I agree that the clear lids and clear bottles on the early 70's look the same. However, what I am referring to is that when GM went to the black lids, the color of the tanks seemed to change from translucent to more opaque, like the current modern day coolant jugs and windshield washer bottles. Again, maybe this is perception only and perhaps someone who has both a clear lid/tank and black lid/tank can chime in and state whether this is fact or fiction.

Also, only the EARLY 70 cars had clear lids. Duane can better answer this, but I think it was those with a pre November or December build date.

    Duane?

Al, I'll chime in if you don't mind. The generally accepted date is January 1970. When we judge a concours car, we'll allow anywhere from Nov '69 to Jan '70 build date for either jug. Before that it better have a clear top and after, a black top.

I put a NOS tank on my 71 Stage 1 way back in 1989, it was definitely white, translucent but no way could it be described as clear.

    Should have bought 100.

    Hey Brad -

Does that mean my 11D car could have a black top? :Brow:

No, it just means I won't deduct a point or 5 from you if you have a black top. You and I both know it should have a clear top.

Now hush up and get back in your room. Kids....

Wow, if the 806 people who viewed this thread would all sign up for a coolant tank, the price would be well under $100 per tank.

    Too bad.

Yeah, humans are funny. If this deal doesn't go through, watch everyone bitch when the next NOS tank goes for 1000.00 US.

    Are We Close?

How many pre orders do we still need? Maybe if people thought it was close they would get more excited? I have no idea I am just getting this back to the top.

Instead of all this "back to the top"stuff, why doesn't someone just make it a sticky???

    Alan,
I faxed an order for two tanks around noon today. Let me know if you received ok.

    Thanks

  14. Actually, many of us do not check specific forums for activity, instead we use the "view new posts" link to see what's new on ALL forums. So, in these cases, it does take someone making a post in order to see the thread. But you're right, making it "sticky" will help. :)

    Re: Are We Close?

    Mark,

I wish I could say we were close, but we aren't even near 100. I've contacted OPG but they gave me the run around and wouldn't commit to buy any because they are not in their catalog and can't be worked in until next year's reprint.

Honestly, this is a real shame because I know they are needed. I give clubs even better deals than I give the wholesalers like OPG. I want the clubs to be able to sell them and make money for their events. If you know of anyone that needs one of these coolant tanks, send them my way. I'm ready to go on this project immediately if we can produce the orders. Unlike Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones, I DO NOT subscribe to the theory of "Build it and they will come."

I've attached the signup sheet again for those who need it.

    food for thought

    Guys:

One of the main distinctions of the BPG from other Buick club(s) is the pursuit of reproduction parts. If there is no tangible evidence of this, eventually some may question the motives of OUR new club.

IMO, this would be an excellent opportunity for the BPG to show the Buick community its a player and is here to stay. Think of the publicity this new part could bring.

If funds are a problem, I would be willing to LOAN the club what I can afford to leave some breathing room in the war-chest. If I had a better idea of the club's financial position to-date, perhaps I would better understand the BIG picture.

    Just my .02

    peace!

  18. David, just to kick a couple of numbers around...

The BPG is in the neighborhood of maybe 475 members, at $35/ea. In the first year there were around 300 members, equalling approx $10,500 in gross revenue. If this year we have 475 @ $35 that's another $16,600, total now being about $27,000. That's just gross figures. Alan needs 100 min ordered to get a run made, at $195 ea = $19,500. Now remember the club has had operating expenses to come out of the supposed $27,000, and maybe(?) is repaying some of the founders that contributed huge sums of money to get this club off the ground.

I agree that it is an ideal situation for the club to make a difference in the repro parts arena, but I seriously doubt we are in that financial position yet. We need to grow before we spend all of our operating funds. It is also possible that the BPG has already offered to purchase a small # of these tanks, but I haven't heard anything on that subject yet.

Maybe we'll hear from one of the directors on this subject today?

BTW, that's a very generous offer on your part!

    David:

You and I can form reasonable assumptions all day long, but what is reality? What are the budgets for the Nats? What are the month-to-month operating expenses? In dollars and cents, how are we going to accomplish the goals set forth by this club?

Hey, I come to PRAISE Caesar NOT to bury Caesar. However, if the club members aren't up to speed, then how are we to succeed?

The Corvette folks have giant friggin complex dedicated to preservation and enjoyment of their car's legacy. If we can't come up with resources to reproduce a G-D plastic box, then God help us all!

Alan has set it up, we just have to knock it down! Who's with me?

    :Dou:

Sorry, if I sound pissy. I'm just a very interested party.
