For a stock rebuild is it overkill for head studs + nuts ?
I will replace the head bolts with new, looking at stud kit but is about 3 times the price.

:Brow::laugh: Hey,,, Aussie,,,, That aint no Chebby that you are working on....:laugh:

All the internal bolts are good on a nail head,,,, unless,,, some goon mechanic has severely abused them:Brow:....all you need to do is clean and inspect them for overtorking , galling of the threads , ect... overtorking is evidenced by a thinning of the body of the bolt from normal... like a slim , trim , womans waist.... :Brow::laugh:
strength wise,, the stock bolts are good for any natural aspirated application.... If you go to nitrus, or a huffer... then and only then , would you need to start upgrading the bolts....otherwise,,,, ''money wasted''.....:Brow:

One of the only things I will suggest is to upgrade to ARP rod bolts if only for the safety factor.

Tom, I've got the ARP rod bolts tucked away ready for use. OK Doc, I'll go ahead and get new bolts ( mainly because they were all missing from my boxes of parts )
I haven't had a close look at whether the deck threads for the heads go into the water jacket. I think some do ? and read somewhere a thread about this but can't find it. I recall some saying put a sealer on threads and others say no need. What's the advice please.

Three head bolts in the middle row go into the water passages.
If you are using the thick cast aluminum alt mount found on the later Nails, you need to use two of the longer head bolts. Don't mix them up!!

Ken, if you need stock head bolts I have them in stock. Used of course. If you buy new ones you must make sure at least the front head bolts are shouldered to supply oil to your rockers.

Tom, thanks for the tip on the bolt shoulder, I didn't know that. There is a Buick owner here with left over bits and pieces who has bolts. If they're fine to reuse I can get some off him. There is some good reading in those threads put up by 56buickboy, thanks for that also.
