The wet test didn't change? If the heads were milled,or the deck was milled,or you have adjustable push rods, not adjusted right, you might have valves not closing completely. You can check those things before removing the head. A lot of the time people will have the adjustment side towards the bottom closer to the lifter if your not sure if you have adjustable ones or not. Seeing how your taking it apart anyway,it won't take much effort to check,or keep an eye out for.
Take a look at the head gasket also when the head is removed,to rule that out also. Could very well be a faulty head gasket, getting ready to fail.
I have a brand new cometic mls one last fall I think the cam could be in fault I take a decision and i will make a overhaul this winter My new engine will be buick 464 (4.350 bore) new bearing all around pontiac h beam rod from am&p wiseco 21cc piston I don't know wish cam to take for now
Call this guy; http://www.trishieldperformance.com/content.php?114-contact-us Jim Weise,he sells pistons and rods(H-beam BBC) for a 470 CID stroker kit,it is a .050 extra stroke,I think he sells rotating assembies also.I think you can have your crank ground to his specs,or buy a crank ready to install. Not sure though, because its not listed in his website, but have read on here that he does, and this is his forum. You can go to this area and ask him also; http://www.v8buick.com/forumdisplay.php?100-Tri-Shield-Performance Why do a 464,when you can do a 470? I'm sure he can recommend a camshaft for your combo also.
It should run a lot better after you freshen it up. Should put you in the low 12s right from the start, and after some tuning, high 11s should be easily obtainable. At least until that 8.5 lets loose.:Brow:
The 8.5 is a good strong rear with lot's of aftermarket support. Even in stock form, they will hold up. Of course the Buick 8.5's with bolt in axles are better.
I will do a rebuild on it sooner or later but first my engine and tranny I just don't know what cam to choice for now I think the hemikiller from ta
ou:The 71-72 Buick-Oldsmobile A Body rear is a excellent rear and plenty strong. Its got bolt in rear axles and parts are plentiful because GM made the 8.5 for a long time. It uses the exact same front and rear pinion bearings the 12 bolt uses.
His is a C-clip 8.5 in his 78 chevy Nova,I don't think he has upgraded his axels yet,so.............. If he puts a 470 in front of it,it will only be a matter of time launching it at the dragstrip with slicks before it breaks?o No:
This is a direct quote from a older thread that Monzaz (Jim) posted in about c-clips. He builds rear ends for a living. Post #4 of this thread--> http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?219633-c-clip-elimin&highlight=c-clips
thanks for now I think I will put a good alloy axle and a good carrier to start but for now any answer to my camshaft question????
What is your static compression ratio? Don't guess, you have to know for sure. Measure everything and figure it out. It's important for cam selection. Unless you like wasting money, I would fix what I have instead of replacing everything in a rebuild.
Well then duplicate my build with a TA Hydraulic Roller cam, 231*/238*, 112* LSA, .550"/.571" lift with a 4-7 firing order swap. Made 602HP/589TQ http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...-s-motor)-Complete-and-Dyno-tested&highlight=
