Dean Oliver is one of the best with Q-jets. He can build and set up one racing and the street.

I had tried to get a well known favorite Q-jet guy that is often recommended on this to build a carb for me. He did not want to mess with an already modified Q-jet that went 11.26 already. I could understand that. He told me to find a good 800 core and get back with him. I did and he then refused to build it because it was going on my old 67 Pontiac 464. It did not matter about the 10sec GN or the Stage One in the family. Guess he is a true Buick lover. Anyway he did me a big favor because after reading about Dean on the Super Stock board and I gave him a call.

It was great to meet such a nice guy that that knew so much about Q-jets and his prices were lower too. He was the opposite of the first builder. He followed with emails and even took time to call me. I have built and ran Q-jets for 30yrs and he is the best I have ever met. I know a good bit about Qjets and after he told me how he checks the hangers and rods, I knew he was the man.
Since then has built a second one for me and has build one for a friend of mine with a '69 Judge.
I am not going for the 9s with Dean's build but it will see the 10s.
Nothing like the look on those big Holley guys when they get beat by a Q-jet.
Sorry to be so long, but I wanted people to know a little about Dean Oliver, I was surprised to see him posting.

    Deano's Carburetors !!!!

Dean Oliver is one of the best when it comes to Q-jets. Whether it's for a stock rebuild or a high peformance application, he can set you up. We picked-up .08 of a second and 2 mph in the 1/4 just by bolting on one of his Q-jets !!!!

I run a Lunati "Popular Mechanics" cam in my Stage 1,and have the original Stage 1 carburetor. I restored and rebuilt this carb myself, and on the highway this car gets over 18 mpg!(18.4 mpg at 70 mph) Pretty good, huh? Around town driving ,the car averages 14 mpg.And this mind you,is with the stock 3.64's(non a/c Stage 1 equipped). I have plenty of power- the car is very responsive and streetable with a decent idle.

Who says you can't get decent mileage out of a big block car?

How many of those "post" cars were built?

    Steve's post car

    Brad -

You have no idea how nice that green post car is - I saw Steve run it at the 100th anniversary race at Milan last summer. I think he is from Ohio, and seems like his dad built the engine. He was running mid 11's if I remember correctly, and I think that engine was pretty close to stock appearing. Can't remember if there were headers on the car or not.

The car is REALLY REALLY clean, but I think it was not an original stage car. I think it was cloned to a big block/Stage 1 drive train. This is the kind of car that makes the "other" crowd spend $40k on a stripped Belvedere with a 427. The sleeper look rules, and this is one of the nicest Buicks I've seen built that way.

Saw it too. Steve, his brother and his father are nice guys. The car is quick.
