Help needed. I’m looking for an original paint part that is from a GSX so I can match the original color or at least get really close with a base coat clear coat for my GSX. I’ll buy the part or I’ll be glad to ship it back after we match the color.

My GSX had a repaint and I believe it was painted the wrong shade of yellow

Matching this yellow is a pain and a lot of work. Who knew so many shades of yellow existed!!!!

Underside of decklid perhaps? Cowling behind fender? Under a hood hinge?

Bottom of the trunk was painted very thin, Had a green hue to it.

Cowling did not have full coverage either.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I'm surprised with all of the gorgeous restored GSX's on here that there isn't a known recipe for the Yellow? That can't really be true?

There is, it’s just not easy to find here on the board, or was deleted when the board was redone.

Try TCP global, they have lacquer, basecoat, clearcoat urethane. Paint.

Does this help. Lacquer paint on Sandy's X from the 80s. Still holding up great and its driven and raced.
    Ditzler paint.

I see Steve posted something but I’m not convinced it’s correct color and WallyPep posted info but again not really correct color. Only way to get the color correct is going to be to match it against something original or a car painted correctly many years ago. I don’t want my GSX to be way off from others when I roll up in the Nationals with it.

Problem with old formulas is that they have Lead in them and now paint doesn’t come with lead so it throws off the color.

thank you for your help Gary. Good to talk with you.

Gary is going to try and give me a card painted with the correct color to match up.

Just keep in mind yellow fades faster than any other color so unless it's a very well preserved example,.... original or not,..it may not be exactly as it was

Try sanding a spot with 1k grit till you get the original paint then polish that area up

GSX Saturn yellow is PPG 81838
The only formula available from PPG is in the Omni shop line.
They do not have toners to mix in a better line of paint.
This color is not a very popular color, and it is doubtful that the color lab will reformulate this paint.
Paint codes referenced in the earlier threads are over 10 years old, and lots of things have changed with paint. VOC emissions have driven the changes. Most shops are spraying water based paint. The colors are spot on and match most newer cars. Custom formulation will have to be made.
Does anyone have a formula that has been used within the last 5 years?
