The world is not the same place anymore. Regardless of your thoughts on the war you would have to agree that we have become hardened to the crazy things that are tolerated each day in the name of "political correctness" and "tolerance". The headlines read (NOTE THAT THIS WAS THE TOP STORY ACROSS THE NATION) that Saddam H. was going to sue the U.S. because pictures were published of him in his underwear. Keep in mind that Bush's likeness is burned along with the American flag all the time. And let's not forget seeing them dragging our dead soldiers thru the streets for the TV cameras.
Now there will be debates and there will be those on the far Left that will condemn Bush, the administration and the military becuse these photos were published. It has already begun. It's pathetic. This EVIL dictator killed hundreds of thousands of people over the years. Not 3 weeks ago they found the mass grave of 1500 Kurds, mostly women and children who were buried after being shot. Who really cares if the guy is seen in a photo in his underwear? He ought to feel lucky that our servicemen just didn't chuck in a few grenades into his little foxhole when they found him. The guy didn't even have the guts to shoot himself.
What do you think would have been the reaction after WWII if Hitler had been captured? Does anyone think that any RATIONAL thinking American would have blamed the President for a similar photo? May God have mercy on us all.

Yep........then someone will need to step down, after making a public apology of course

Anybody notice when the Mexican president made a remark last week that he refused to say he was sorry? HATS OFF TO HIM!! :beer ........If he was any part of this country he would have had to. :spank:

Just wait, you may just see that. If you don't you can just bet that on the Liberal media over the next few days the ACLU will be asked what they think.
And of course they will turn it around on the U.S.

Just think of where you would all be without an organization around to protect your civil liberties the next time you slam the "worthless liberal aclu".

i don't think i'd ever consider vincente a 'good' leader anyway, his whole agenda is hypocritical application of border standards between the US and Mexico (why don't YOU try to sneak into mexico and see what happens, eh?).

not to mention he's a product of the famously corrupt mexican single party system...

Absolutely! See how far the ACLU would go to defend your rights if you were on the other side of the fence, such as your own religious freedoms or gun ownership or even self defense. If protecting your rights intrude on the PC crowd or or other liberal institutions, your on your own. Their track record proves it.

Our freedom of speach is slowly being taken away.......thanks to the ACLU, Al, and Jesse. I've heard Bush say some pretty weird things.....I hate to think what would happen if he made a slip of the tongue......it's bound to happen. Somehow I don't see him stepping down or apologizing in any way, shape or form........but he would have to I guess. That would be interesting. :bglasses:

    civil rights

Cody, Every single one of the rights listed are defended by the ACLU on the LEFT of the causes!! not for those who are in the center or to the right!! You must be young because you know nothing of what it was like before the PC came into vogue!! and thats just what it is is a systematic way of eroding the laws and customs of this country!! when I was discriminated by a local goverment for my age at the time(31) they refused to here anything about my situation(typical! it wasn't political enough) posting the the things YOU think they stand for doesn't make them a creditable organization! check their history before singing there praises

It may be a shame that things changed but they did, time to accept them and play by the new rules.

I wouldn't expect republicans to care about civil liberties anyways.

It's interesting reading this thread as my reaction when I saw the article on the potential suit was completely different than most responses here. Do I think Saddam is evil? Yes. Is he a murderer? Absolutely. He is a prime example of what is wrong in the human race, no doubt.

He built his power base on oppresion and tyranny. He used fear as a way to control his countrymen. Our first amendment right had no place in Saddam's Iraq. We will tell you what to think, we will tell you what color the sky is, and you will smile and like it.

For all the misery and absolute heinous crimes this man commited, I was uplifted to see this suit. Why, you ask? Because this type of suit is the very thing this man lived his life to prevent. This is the exact type of freedom he labored to eradicate from Iraq.

Do I hope he wins? No way in he!!. But his use of the freedom to bring suit for showing him in his underwear makes an absolute mockery of his dictatorship and everything he purportedly stood for politically and socially. I can't think of a more appropriate person to file a frivolous lawsuit. I applaud the free thinkers and legal minds that engineered this suit and fed it to the press.

It was a stroke of genius, once you get past the outrageousness of it.

I am sorry that walked away feeling you were discriminated against because of your age. I dont know the particulars of the situation so it would be improper for me to comment on this. However , belittling the understanding of Cody without knowing his age or experience is in effect doing the same thing.

Which laws and customs have been eroded?

The laws that kept African Americans from voting ?
The custom of making those with disabilities unable to work?
You live in Ohio -- have you ever not been able to buy a gun?
The ability for a foreign leader to say a blatently racist comment and not get called to the mat for it?
To say that somehow the ACLU is to blame for some sort of erosion of American values is short sighted. The right to say or do whatever you want regardless of the consequences or who you may offend has been eroded--true. The center/right has ALWAYS had its defenders and has done so with passion and effectiveness in both the legislature and the judiciary.
The NRA and the Christian Right and thier legal arms are credible organisations . I just dont happen to agree with them . There is a difference.
Certainly that right hasnt been eroded.
