Are you serious? You are really looking for high performance carb builders to better a 13 second car? Knocking BG (I assume Barry Grant?) Pro Systems? What is your goal? I realize you are the V8Buick board guy but a 13 second car running a BG carb or a Pro Systems carb?! (Dont even get on with how heavy the car is) What for? Put the Qjet back on, you will do no better!

You mentioned that Pro Systems never asked how the car would be used Hello! They dont build street carbs, why would they ask? Check out there website. They build race carbs!

Dont knock a company for not doing something they cant do!

I run a Pro Systems Carb and do not receive any endorsements.

Then when I told him it was for a 4500 pound Riviera with AC and power windows, he should have declined my business!

When I'm approached by a client to do computer stuff beyond my realm of expertise I immediately put them on to someone who CAN do the job.

Hey, and a carburetor is a freaking carburetor! He should be able to build a carb that doesn't leak all over my manifold and stall when turning left.

I called Jet Performance in CA yesterday. I'll probably be sending it to them to wipe all traces of un-Pro Systems off of it. I love having to spend an additional 30% to fix someone elses lame work...

I have to agree with the last few post. Why do you need a 950 cfm carb on a 13 second street car. Remember, its the total combination of parts that have to work right to make power. Keep it simple or you get way out in left field fast. We all bad mouth things we don't understand and blame parts or people for our own mistakes. The knowlege of making power is hard to come by and people in the know won't give it up so easilly. Stay away from the people that give their opinion so easilly in the pits or on these web sites! I have customers out there with very simple but well thought out combinations running great and enjoying their cars.
Anyway, a big heavy car like yours would probably run great with a Holley 750 Street Avenger with vacum secondaries right out of the box. All carbs will need to have the floats adjusted for that particular application.
Also its a good idea to spend the money and get an Innovate O2 monitor to really fine tune any carb. Just this alone would give you the abillity to tune any of the carbs you spent so much money on.

Hey Yards - sorry for your pain!

I'm no expert, but Holleys are pretty easy to set up. Or maybe I've just been lucky! There are alot of racers near you who run "street cars". Isn't there someone local to you who could tune it? I hate to see you send it to another "factory" who can't see your car up close. A local guy can at least road test it and make sure its right.

Anybody in NJ/PA know a good Holley tuner?

    my 2 cents...

    Good Luck - Bill

Yardley does make a good point in his last post. I agree that the Pro Systems guy should have just said that he couldnt help him. Or at the very least, cautioned him that this may not be the best application for their carb.

Yard,a 750 would work and be real responsive, but I would'nt put anything smaller than an 800-850,with Buicks bigger is better on carbs,I've always seen 455's run best with large carbs, thats why the 1000 TQ is in demand. For boppin around town a small carb is OK,but if your gonna "excercise" it,a 750 runs out of capability.Especially when they are built.
(you'd never do that would you?)

    Just My .02.

Yardley, when I bought my 950HP it was bone stock. That's the way I wanted it. I used it stock as a base point for tuning. I didn't want to have anyone super tune it for my combination. Out of the box it ran great. With my old 750 Vac. Sec 3310, the best I could muster was a 13.07. When I bolted on my stock 950 HP and did the basic idle and idle mixture adjustments the engine idled about the same. Not much of a change there. However the change I did notice was just driving around normally. A lot more punch, and much easier to brake the tires loose even at part throttle. I decided to take the car to the track and see if my 640.00 dollars was worth it or not. My first run was an asounding 12.48. That's more than half second quicker than before. I had to pull over after my run to see if I was looking at the right lane for my car on the timeslip. :eek2: Since then I have made small changes to my HP. I won't send my carb out as I like to learn from my own school of hard nocks. And yes there were a few. Nothing that couldn't be fixed though. My carb is still pretty much stock with the exeption of different jets, different squirters, and a 50 cc primary accel. pump. that's it. I'm still not done tinkering with it though. But for now I have managed to get my 4100 lbs car to go 12.04. And with A/C too. At least I have moved the right direction. And.... yes I have a track the is 10 min. away from where I live so that helps. If I were in your shoes I would return the carb to stock and use that as a base point for your tuning. Did you buy the carb new or used? If you decide to go with a quadrajet that's fine. They're a great carb, and a lot of guys on this board sware by them. But don't give up on your HP yet. With small changes on your carb and a few on your timing you should get big results. I'm willing to share with you what worked and what didn't work for me. Just ask if you have a question or two. :) Good luck John Biggs.

    950 HP carb.

When somebody buy's a 950hp carb and pay's that much for one, You would think he would have enough sense to figure it out and take some time and set it up right? Before i would keep calling patrick james and sound like someone that need's to have his hand held...... And then to bash him and say avoid him. :error:

Well , when I paid Jet Performance to build my old Holley, it ran right out of the box. I would expect the same here. At the LEAST it shouldn't stall when I turn left and dump fuel all over my intake when I shut off the car.

Maybe I should find an old Holley and have Jet build it again.

Yards, sorry to hear of your trouble's... if I ever needed Pat, even on a Sunday, at a track, for anything, I had his cell number, and he was awesome for me.

Like I saud before, he probably builds great race carbs, but this unit is very far from correct. It was wrong the 1st moment I took it out of the box.

And yes, he is available 24/7, but I'm just disappointed that he was unwilling to make this situation right. He never even offered. When I suggested swapping the leaky hi-flow needles and seats he just retorted that it would ruin the fuel curve. He then didn't even offer a solution.

    Just a shame.
