Cool, My GS was parked around the corner on Lawrence Ave, and I never got back that thing I passed down in the 7th row.... was that you? I really miss Uncle Frank. D
...to be a dental floss tycoon Sportwagons, Roadmaster wagons, GS Buicks, wives with old Buicks, and Frank Zappa. You apparently are my brother, separated at birth, Dana. The one thing I did get in trouble for was singing part of a certain Zappa "princess" song out loud in the garage one day when the kids were about.(relax they didn't hear me!) Cool photo. I never saw Frank live.
Re: ...to be a dental floss tycoon " Just me and the pygmi pony... over by the dental floss bush" We have one in the back yard, you might have seen it when you were here over the summer. BTW Chris did you ever get airborn with that hood strapped to your little wagon? Oh well, See you at St. Alphonsos Pancake Breakfast,I'm gonna steal the margereeen PS that picture of Frank was taken during the instumental "Black Napkins" in my opinion the greatest guitar solo ever.
<<BTW Chris did you ever get airborn with that hood strapped to your little wagon?>> No but it acted like an airfoil gluing me to the road so I could push the limits of the highly responsive 1.9 liter powerplant. Did you guys know that a 1994 Ford Escort station wagon will go almost 80 mph with a 72 GS hood strapped to the top? Now you do! Got 36.3 miles per gallon and looked like a newer version of Fred Sanford. Got that hood on a car and have started surgical replacement. Ahhh, I could have started with a better hood but I pay myself very well for my time.(beer and solitude in the shop) I am working in the basement today. And all this Zappa, Springsteen and Seger talk is drawing me to my TURNTABLE. Thats right family, run for the hills! Dads digging out his ALBUMS. Round black vinyl frisbees with a little hole in the middle for the CD generation!!
That's funny because last week I dug out one of my Marshall Tucker Band albums and my daughter said "what's that???" If she only knew:beer
Re: Re: Yes! Spanish Johnny drove in From the underworld last night With bruised arms and broken rhythm and a beat up old Buick But dressed just like dynomite Awesome, just f'ing awesome, man! One of the greatest albums ever. If you hate Bruce, then just listen to this album. You'll change your mind. Reet! Bruce actually references cars in a lot of his songs, and has written several songs just about cars. Like him or hate him, he is a car guy. Back in the late 70's/early 80's Bob Seger and Bruce were sitting in Bruce's car one night drinking beer, and Bob recounted later that Bruce's stereo was un-Godly loud.
A friend once told me that, in reference to "Racing in the Streets", where he sings "I got a 69 Chevy with a 396, Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor.....", that there were no Fuelie heads for a 396, is this true?
No fuelie heads on a big block chebbie, only small blocks. I got a 63 chebbie with a 283, fuelie heads and ..... doesn't sound as good.
Hey man, where is NJ are you? "My hometown" (no pun intended) is Washington Township (Bergen County) and I also lived in Cresskill (Bergen County as well) for 11 years. Man, I miss good Pizza and Italian anything!
Bruuuuuuuuuuuce Marc, Good job, did you know them or look them up? The highlight of taking my Skylark out of storage in April is playing an acoustic version of "Open All Night" from Freehold NJ in 96. Just Bruce on harmonica and guitar. I start the car, let it warm up, and turn on the tape player (no need to worry where the tape is as I cued it up in November) drop the clutch and rip out of the storage yard. Best way to break in the spring:3gears: The other song where Buicks are inferred is Brothers under Bridges '83 off the Tracks boxed set: BROTHERS UNDER THE BRIDGES ('83) Every spring when the weather gets warm They come pourin' into town straight off of them farms Driving 455s running hard and strong They'd scratch built in them tool sheds all winter long And I did get to see him at Fenway. I have the discs and would burn them for blanks and postage. Paul
Do you KNOW he is implying about Buicks? Keep in mind Oldsmobiles and Pontaics had their own 455s too.
Do you KNOW he is implying about Buicks? Keep in mind Oldsmobiles and Pontaics had their own 455s too. I don't know but in MY world Bruce is always driving a Buick unless specifically noted in the lyrics (ie: "She's a hot steppin hemi with a four on the floor"- Ramrod)
Live at the Bottom Line, 1976! The sound quality is horrible, but the performance is just unreal. The 20 minute Rap/E Street Shuffle is a gem, plus the solo piano version of Thunder Road is the quintessential! Anybody want it? I have it on CD!
Good Bruce Talk Yardley, I wouldn't mind a copy of the Bottom Line. I do have a couple shows on disc and a few on tape. Mostly Tom Joad tour with a few oldies but they are in my car until spring. I do have some '03 stuff too. Paul
