I know they stop suddenly at the end of the track...

By the way, what's that behind the windshield? Looks kinda like an arm wrapped around an inflated airbag...Taz?

We used chrome tape for the windows. It causes really weird reflections.

We also used the Super Glue/graphite on the body where the tires contact it, on the inner and outer hubs of the wheels and on the inner side of the wheels where they rub on the center divider. We used tiny "touch up" brushes to apply the glue more accurately. Before applying the glue to the axles, they were polished with wet 1,000 grit sandpaper and polished with Wenol. The head of the nails were slotted to allow easier application of extra graphite. Please notice that the car is Buick engine red.

    Thanks again.

My 71 year old father was able to attend. He is pictured with my son. I do not know who was more proud. It is sad to "Peak" so early in life.

I squirted the silver basecoat last night and was in horror at all the dust it picked up! But I should wet sand it and shoot the topcoat this weekend.

We applied more coats of paint yesterday but it is too cold and wet to go out to the shop now. The camo paint scheme is looking better, but now one side looks better than the last side.

Jamie's idea of a pinewood derby crusher!

I think Jamie got carried away in the shop with some of my help! He wants to crush the compitition! We built this while waiting for his paint to dry on his real car.

    Now for his real car!

I should have let Jamie do all the paint work as I am not an artist at all! If you can't tell it is supposed to be camo., but it is the best I can do.

    Lookin' good Jimmy.

    :af:

I squirted the silver basecoat in prep for the metal flake red top coat, and it felt dry. But after holding it in your hand for 30 seconds it got rel tacky again. So I steel wooled it down and squirted the Testor's metal flake red on it. It looked FABULOUS! But it too would get tacky after holding it in your hand.

I figured I'd try waxing it to help put a hard finish on it, and it totally destroyed the paint!:af:

So I sanded it all off and shot it with black lacquer. It looks great, but I am waiting 2 or 3 days before handling it.

I'll post pics once the wheels are on.

Try putting it in the oven on the lowest setting for an hour or so. This has helped harden paint for me. So far no problems at 170* and the oven door has to be closed for our oven to stay on. If your oven doesn't have this safety feature then leave the door open to lower the heat some.

I thought about that Jimmy, but was afraid I'd end up blistering or bubbling the paint.

No worries now. The hi-gloss black lacquer looks fantastic! I'm debating about masking off areas and spraying chrome bumpers and such. Just not sure.

I'd like chrome 5-spoke wheels too, but don't know how I'd do that.

I experimented with masking off the hood of a spare car for GSX stripes but the paint ran under the tape. I even used the good (green) masking tape and pressed down hard but it still made a mess. I think it did this because the wood soaked the paint in under the tape.

Thanks for the tips on here guys

My youngest won third in tiger cubs out of ten cars even with this army truck shape. He was fourth out of 19 in the pack too. In addition the car won a "funniest" car award:puzzled: but I am not sure what to make of that.
