Again... question for those who have installed the XR-1 conversion.

Which exact model did you choose, as the Jegs catalog shows only Ford or Chevy applications. Help please!

Pertronix unit and coil have been in my car for the last 6 years with no problems.

My opinion here.....for what it's worth........

I don't race cars. Nor do I build race motors or claim to be an ignition expert. With that being said, a spark is only as hot as the plug gap will allow. A wider gap will require more voltage to fire. I use stock carbon resistance 7mm hypalon wires, R43s AC spark plugs and stock cap and rotor. Only upgrade from that is a .040 plug gap which is .005 wider than stock.

My theory......where you guys who have had bad luck with pertronix may be this: A higher voltage coil that draws more current than a stock coil MAY be overheating the Pertronix module and toasting it.

I see all this hoopla of 8mm wires, super blaster coils, and spark plugs from mars, and MSD boxes as overkill, much like putting a marine battery on a lawn mower in place of the lawn mower battery hoping to get faster starts. LOL :idea2:

Why would anybody want to do un-necessary up grades like this to a street engine anyway? For the money spent on that, you could buy many other things that have a better HP to coin ratio. :Dou:

I seriously doubt a hotter spark would add much more than a few HP to a street motor. MSD maybe more than a few......but as you add all this crap you decrease the reliability factor.......IM humble HO of course. :Smarty:

There is no difference in a Chevy and Buick 8 cylinder Delco points distributor main body. The other differences in the overall distributor will not affect the fit of the kit. Get the Chevy kit.

The very first Pertronix kits were very good. The one with the ring that bolts under the rotor worked well. I know several people using them and they seem to be reliable. The later Pertronix (lobe sensing) blow. I've seen several people stranded by them. Joe, I'm very glad you have had sucess with the Pertronix:laugh: May you never need that set of points in the glovebox.:bla:

Yep....mine has the ring. And just tonight I finally put that uniset in the glovebox. Murphy's law.....you know.....this thread scared me enough to finally just do it!
