my buddy use to race bmx around that time and still has a Navajo that was an amazing bike back then - superlightweight
THAT'S IT! I have been racking my brains since seeing this thread - trying to remember which one I wanted as a kid! It was the Lemon Peeler! Of course I never got one, and from the looks of it can't afford one now!
Here is a picture of mine, from 1970. Processing date says November, but more like early Summer, or early Fall. I would have been 8 years old, and "In all my glory". Looks like I was hoping for some new front teeth as well.:TU: John. P.S. Dig my cool pants.:eek2:
John I hope your body caught up to the size of that melon! Just kiddin'. Is that one of those combination lock cables around your chest? I remember those. I had a green stingray just like it and had the chest mounted cable/lock. That was hip!
Yes Reynold It is one of those combination lock cables. It had a blue plastic covering, that matched the bike, if I remember correctly. I will admit in the picture of a picture, that I posted, my head does look a bit oversized. In the original is not that pronounced.uzzled: Not to worry, things have evened out over the years.:bla: I will have to post a recent picture and let a jury of my peers decide. (However, I can assure you that no matter how big it is, it ain't filled all the way to the top with brains.) John.:TU:
I had completely forgotten about those chains until I saw that picture. I remember as a kid unlocking my stingray, flipping that chain over my shoulder and riding home. We use to race home, grabbing the other guys chain and trying to yank him off the bike so you could win.
When we lived on the farm we had a small Dairy operation and one time the milk truck was there and ran over our bicycle. It was the only one we had and all us boys shared it...He felt really bad about it,probably was one of my brothers fault for letting it lay out there of course, but anyway the next pickup of the milk he brought us a brand new Schwinn with the shifter on it...We were pretty thrilled you can imagine....Wish we still had it.....
To everyone who has inquired about the bikes, I got rid of all of the disc brake bikes about 6-8 years ago when they were really in demand/ costly. They were vastly overrated and overpriced in my opinion. You can still find one at a "reasonable" price but origianl parts are still hard to come-by. Upstaged in Michigan.
Here is a pic of my bike, not as old as all of yours, probably because im not that old! :bla: (21 years old) Its an older pic but it hasnt changed since then, mostly because I dont really ride anymore. I used to love going to the skatepark, riding the bowl was awesome, but my job killed my back and made riding pretty painful. I'll also attach a picture of me riding me and my brother quarter pipe, probably when I was 16/17 yrs old.
I could kick myself in the arse for getting rid of my Mongoose. Mine was a black 1981 or 82. I bet I put 50K miles on that thing! Been hunting a replacement, but no luck yet.
