Anyone else collect original Schwinn's from the 1960' & 1970's ? As I stated, these are all original, no re-pops or Walmart copies. I have had them since the early 1990's, almost pre-internet. I have attended the Ann Arbor show for years and their values have always increased. All flavors (colors) and 5 speeds including all of the Krates, Fastbacks, Runabouts (3-speeds only) and Manta Rays as well as the ultra rare and hard to find Mini-Twinn Tandems. I have dealt with some of the pickiest collectors in the USA, John C from New Jersey, Bill F from Chicago, Ed K from Indiana and Bike Mike from Michigan to name a few. If anyone is interested in buying a complete collection, PM me for prices and details. The only bike that has been restored correctly I might add is my 1968 Lemon Peeler. The rest are as Schwinn manufactured them.I would prefer to sell them all as a collection since they are from my personal collection. There are 25 complete bikes plus some "kool" accessories like taillights and brake lights. Regards, Upstaged in snowy & cold Michigan.
I had a new one in 1965. I put a slick on the back, and it could "pop wheelies" with the best of them.
Got a Schwinn Caliente for my 12th B-day....back in '77. 10 speed, chrome fenders, wide seat with the springs, etc.
Here's a guy selling a Schwinn Stingray on ebay with a GS resto going on. Anybody we know?uzzled: http://cgi.ebay.com/Schwinn-Stingra...yZ156524QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I got an Apple Krate for my 10th birthday and promptly took the front drum brake apart to see how it worked, and never put it together again. I LOVED that bike... rode it everywhere.
I got a Schwinn Corvette from the guy a bought my 66 Ford F100 from. His son had it in the early 70s. It is not restored and came with all paperwork including registration and sales broschure. Here is a pic.
I will post some pics in the next couple of weeks. I have 3 of my favorites here in the house but the rest are hanging in my barn. I try to keep the RWL tires inflated so they are ready to ride / show in the Summer. Look at www.schwinnforums.com for some nice articles and pictures of these early musclebikes. I got an Orange Krate for my 8th birthday. I kept it until high school, when I sold it to get a 10 speed, like everybody else. Naturally, it was in perfect shape when I sold it...
I got a new One in '65 too. Blue with a White seat. Knobby tire in back. Measured my longest wheelie at 280 feet . PONCH
I bought a new Lemon Peeler in the fall of 1971. I was almost nine years old. Saved allowance money to buy it. I treated this bike like a show car, only riding it after school and on weekends. Rode another bike to school and on rainy days. The bike is still with me and in great condition. I have the original manual that I wrote the $119 I paid for it on the front of. I'm thinking about selling it. It is also one of the first Krates with the rear disk brake. Lots of good memories!
Your an animal Ponch!! We had contests and could ride it on 1 for as long as traffic allowed!!:beer I still have 2 of my old bikes. Royce union from 78 and a huffy all nobbed up from like 79. Plus my 1978 XR 75 and the last 1999 Z 50 with the solid type wheels.
