This should be interesting.........any guesses on how much this one will sell for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE...ryZ16124QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem *(is this anyone we know)? TUFBUICK
H.M.M. Subscriber? From the look of the pictures and the sound of the description, he must have read the Hemmings Muscle Machines latest article on GSX's. Put the quarter on the wheel too. Now, when we go to car shows, guys will be looking in their pockets for a quarter to lay on our wheels. John
Auction is 16 hours old and this GSX is now $23,100.00....................... WOW !!! This is gonna be fun to watch. TUFBUICK
I don't understand this whole quarter thing. I went to a local car show around my house in the summer, and some guy there had a 72 GS. He said the same thing, that if a quarter fit in this area then they were real GS and GSX wheels. But I talked to another fellow member on this site and he said that this lip depth was only for the 70 and 71 model years, and that the lip depth on the 72 model year Skylarks was smaller and this quarter thing did not appy.
Looks very real and very nice to me. Cowl tag indicates QQ = Saturn Yellow GSX built the 1st week of March 1970. My GSX is mostly original paint also and the paint still looks respectable. Saturn yellow must hold up well! I should try using it on my house if it holds up 35 years ...Go for it and good luck! Paul
That paint was R&M Acrylic Lacquer and it does truly have amazing holding power. I bought some directly from R&M back when my X was about 17 years old and found the paint from the can to be a PERFECT color match for the paint on the car - even after 17 years in California sun.
Question If the trunk has 4 little holes as seller states & show, then wouldn't you worry about other areas too? Definitely looks like the car has seen Ohio salted roads to me. Just my 2 cents. Gary
I think trunk rust holes like that are caused by water leaking into the trunk from behind the chrome trim under the rear window. Many A bodies have that problem. Maybe it could just be rainwater under the rubber mat in the trunk that caused those.
Agreed! Even if he never drove it in the rain, it could also be from something as simple as washing the car and hosing off the back window at the wrong angle, and then not drying out the trunk.
Stage 1 or not? Might be a Stage 1 GSX , who knows ...has chrome valve covers which could have bben added. GSX Eric :3gears:
$32,000 and counting. Is this the one to buy? :Smarty: Still 5 days left!! Anyone know this car? gsx's are popping up more often, think there is a reason :Smarty: :beer $$$$
Hi Andrew Hay Andrew, Ask PDXMIKE...He will fill you in on the whole quarter thing on the wheels and the webbed rear end too, which he says they all had that. GSX Eric :3gears:
Listing states it is a Stage 1 and considering only the second owner since 72, should be able to document. Looks like a nice car.
The WG code wheels were on the GSX and were available on the GS as well. Not sure when in the 1970 model year Buick started using them, but I know the early cars didnt have them. My March built 70 is supposed to have WG's
The WG wheel some were also not marked in early 1970 was the only wheel with that offset. Go back through your BPG newsletters and there is a good article on it. The wheel came on Buick GS and GS that had chrome 15 x 7 wheels. In 1971 the wheel ring depth changed. I doubt this is Warren Hartman's car if they guy has owned it for 33 years. Warren's car was restored, went through several owners and has been sold recently. I checked the numbers and it was not Warren's car. His car went out of state. This car is not in the registry which I can understand. I would check with Wayne Roberts if you are really intersted in this car and willing to front the money. Mark
I stand corrected! :Smarty: The offset was indeed the same for all the 1970 wheels. The early wheels were stamped "7.0" while the later wheels were stamped "WG". I knew something changed mid year! My memory is awesome, just doesnt last long ou:
