    Hi Walt
I agree with you 100%. It would make a fantastic summer cruiser! It appears to be in excellent condition. Blue is also my favorite color. Unfortunately I'm just not in a position to buy anything of this value right now. I also have leads on 2 other cars that require restoration which is more my style (and budget!) The seller did email me suggesting that after checking with the BCA members that he is certain it is a GranSport. I emailed back and suggested that obvious evidence of the chrome and emblems suggest that it isn't. I asked for his price for the car and haven't heard from him yet. I hope someone from the board winds up with this car, but it won't be me. I'll let everyone know if I hear more from the seller.

  2. Walt i agree that it is a very nice car and a very desireable combination of options. however if the car is a clone then it should sell for clone dollars. the problem is that the seller thinks it's a True GS and is probably asking GS type Money. so do you pay GS dollars for a clone just to have a car that looks and acts like a GS? there is a big $ difference in value of a true GS vs clone GS and most people arent willing to pay GS dollars for a sheep in wolfs clothing. And furthermore, it seems people aren't willing to pay the dollars for a REAL GS convert!
I sent the seller my assesment of his data plate and p-o-p info. I expect to hear back from him....or maybe he will post here himself.

Maybe the car was just rebodied with a skykark body and they left the side trim on the car, thats what i'am doing because of body cancer. but i'am doing it with out the side moulding. :TU:

G/S - To be , or not to be

Good level thinking Walt ! :TU: You came up with your Guns Loaded on this one . Someone did do the work and as it was pointed out alot is correct ,wiring battery location , glove box lid .
The owner did pull it from Auction .Instead of him getting "Crappy" about the listing he did what he did , Very Good .
I think the Car is Beautiful any way . If I could , I'd buy as a Driver with out any hesitation . So what if someone called you on it's true pedigree ? If they wanted to see a Completley Original (possibly!) go to a Museum . I think those types are the one's whose cars never hit pavement, Their cars sit in a Climate Controled area and are wheeled onto a trailer , rolled off shown .
    Give it it's due !! That 65' IS Gorgeous ! :eek2:

    True GS

Here is an example of a true 1965 GS Convertible,NM, 3 -speed that I am buying. Harvey, notice the GS emblem is below the crease in the fender. BTW, does anyone know if Buick made a 1965 GS convertible 3 or 4 speed that came with consoles?

    This is my Buick

This car was never purchased to be an investment. It was purchased by my father to be driven as much as possible. He was always into Buicks. When I was a kid we had a 68 Electra 225 Convertible that was our cruiser until someone rear ended us and totaled the car. The previous owner did represent it as a GS. My dad bought the car because of the way it looked. He most likely didn't know how to check the numbers. I was always the car nut and he bought it so we could have something to cruise in. There are so many items specific to the GS that are on this car. Just a few examples are the holes in the radiator support for the torsion bars, the battery setup, the 401 exaust manifolds, the T-10 Trans, the glove box, the clutch z bar, the LR on the engine, the casting numbers on the block, head, and intake manifold, etc. I would never try to sell a clone as the real thing. It is what it is. I believe someone had a basket case GS and found a nice skylark convertible and combined them. I have a box of receipts from previous owners that I am currently digging through. I am trying to peice together a history on this car. The primary reason I am selling the vehicle is storage problems. Just before my dad died, he was too sick to drive the manual skylark, so he bought a 1974 Pontiac Grandville convertible with 20k original miles. I don't have the room for both cars. I will most likely sell the car or I may keep it and sell the Grandville. One thing is for sure, I now no more about the 65 GS than I ever thought I would need to know.

  9. Sir
the car is beautiful, nobody is disputing that. i believe you didnt know the car wasnt correct. the discussion here and the questions sent to you through Ebay were to simply try and determine if this is the real thing or a very nice clone. i would love to own the car but i'm not willing to pay the same for a copy as i would for the genuine thing.. also welcome to the Board. :TU: Bob

  10. just wanted to mention that All core supports have the holes for the support rods.. any car that came with A/C had the support rods. i have one from a V6 car that has those holes.also the battery trays are the same on these cars whether GS or special. the only difference is the brackets, which by the way can be found on any 64-67 oldsmobile A body just an FYI... 65 Skylark

If my last posting sounded defensive, it wasn't intended that way. I have actually had a lot fun doing this.

I am not looking to get GS money for a Skylark. I'm realistic as to the value decrease because the numbers don't match.

  13. I sent you a PM about the car

Hi Bill, glad to see you joined us here! Welcome aboard!
Another scenario that came to mind is that it could be an original GS chassis....that is frame, suspension, engine and trans....with a Skylark body placed onto it. The GS chassis would have the same frame, but would also have the larger GS brake cylinders, sway bar, and springs.
Either way, it's a beautiful car that would perform every bit as well as a GS!
My sincere advise to you Bill, is to keep it and sell the GrandVille! (or sell me the Buick!)

Welcome to the board. :TU: I am one of those people who sent you an email through ebay. I started this thread because it is such a beautiful car! Are you planning on re-listing it?
    Thanks
    Harvey

A friend tried to grab it, but lost it in the last seconds. He saw it and drove it, and said the car was very nice. He was the only ebayer to check the car out in person. Still amazed people bid and buy cars without them or someone they trust going over the car. Tony

    3-spd 65 GSs

There were 123 3-spd GS convertibles made in 65. Does not specify console in my book. that would show up on the build sheet if that were found,or window sticker. Gary/Moz
