OK. Whose car is this and what will they take????? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1965...ryZ16124QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Harvey
Wow Harvey! That is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! What will they take!? How much can you (or can't you) afford to bid?
Look at the sides of the car... it has skylark trim and skylark fender vents.. pretty tough to install skylark fender vents where GS vent once were.. i'd be checking this car out very carefully.. Bob
George and Bob, I have very little knowledge on 65's. Are you saying the Gran Sports didn't have the chrome along the side? Is the VIN correct for a Gran Sport convert? All of a sudden my interest level has dropped considerably. o No: My wife is much happier because a second mortgage on the house is getting to be less of a possibility. Harvey
Harvey only skylarks had the side trim like you see on the car in question.. all 65 GS's had fender trim only and it was a series of three vents on each side. Bob
Harvey, look at the white 65 convertible on ebay right now, that is what the trim is supposed to look like for a GS. Interesting that he says #'s matching motor. Did they match the VIN of the car and the motor in 65? I know in GTO's they didn't, you just got a 65 motor, what about GS's?
After asking him what was the deal with the side moldings and a pic of the firewall tag this was his response. "I am ending the listing until I talk to the previous owner of the vehicle. He is a friend of my fathers and plan to call him tommorow. I will relist the vehicle. Bill." Thanks
George I got the same message after asking him about the side trim.. funny thing is that in the auction it was HIS fathers car. I have recently found out that it is extremely easy to fake the numbers matching engine on a 65-66 GS clone. the local machine shop told me that when he was working at a different shop in another state he had a guy who would regularly have him mill the flat surface on blocks where the vin and engine code are. The guy had a stamping kit and would restamp the engine to what he wanted it to say. with a convertible it would be very tough to tellthat a car was a clone and it could possibly be represented as numbers matching. according to Gary that fellow had a lot of 65 & 66GS convertibles over the years. o No:
Yeap unfortunately theres alot of them out there restamping Bob,its really tough on 65 convt`s.like you said, the only other way we can tell is through the tag on the firewall to see if it had buckets, but you know this stuff anyways, this car is definately suspicious. Thanks
And if i`m not mistaken the Gran Sport emblem on the quarter should be below the body line not above? Thanks
Still very cool ride! Very nice looking car and it sure would be a blast to cruise around in with most people not having a clue if it was real or a clone. But she is a Skylark and not a true GS in my book.
65 Gs Someone sure went through a lot of work faking that one. Even has a glove box GS badge. The battery is on the right side tho. I think i'll get in touch with Postons and order me some GS badging and double the price of mine. I wonder how he gets the top down with that Tach in the way? PONCH
I was wondering the same thing,he really went through alot to make it look like a GS,relocate the battery, get all the wiring in the engine compartment right, the emblems looks old too?was it ever possible to get the skylark trim on a Gran Sport? Thanks
Ok, I'm going to abuse you guys! :spank: It's an absolutely gorgeous car....with a 401 nailhead, and a 4 speed!!! As long as the price is right, it would be a great car to own!... I wouldn't mind owning and driving this car till the day I die! ....In which case, 'originality' wouldn't be an issue, since I wouldn't be concerned about resale value. p The seller did contact me to try and verify the cars originality. He seems like a straight-up guy, that isn't trying to cheat anyone. The fact that he stopped the auction to verify it, is a testament to his integrity. :TU: And to clarify: The auction states it was his fathers car for the past 4 years, and he had purchased it from another GS enthusiast...could've been his friends dad. Any one that passes on this car (assuming the price is right) is gonna regret it! c'mon Harvey, how could you NOT want this car? I'm desperately trying to resist buying it myself! :bglasses: Hint: drive fast, nobody will see the side trim!! :3gears:
