This car looks pretty fun. Take a look: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6152&item=2481554418&rd=1 I like the fact that "you can touch the engine from the driver seat"...
theres a guy up here in NH that runs a BUILT chebby SB runs 11's last time i knew not bad looks really scary!! Rich Martel 70 GS 455 BPG #1599
There is an old man locally that builds stuff like that too. He ran many Nailhead motors in small bodied cars back in the 70's. Last thing I saw was a 455 olds in a Ford Festiva with an S10 modified frame under it. Engine sits right beside you just like the one above!! His foot is almost in mid-air when pushing the accelerator. Scars the hell out of me just lookin at it.
I somehow doubt that is NHRA legal, where would you run that thing????? And why an Olds engine?? Some people have too much time and not enough thought to uses.
Thanks Rick, It's the Buick Brothers, they are even both green. I'm going to get a better picture of the pair this weekend probably. The car is doing awesome, bumped the idle up about 50-100 rpm and it idles better now, especially in gear. The carb still needs a bit of fine tuning but that just an hour or two with a vacuum gauge. The car also gets killer gas milage, I made it from Findlay to Centerville on a quarter tank! Love the car.
look at the valve covers and spark plug orientation thats some form of Olds motor, 455 I would bet. Also the Tranny has the BOP bell housing on it.
I'm sorry you are right, I forgot about the Caddy motors because you never see them. The heads look the same between the two but the Olds uses a rear mounted distributor like a chebby while the Caddy uses a front mounted one like a Buick. Both used the same BOP(C) bolt pattern trans though. Thanks for making me do my homework.
No, you rarely see Caddy motors, but they sure have some power don't they? So the question is "Why a Caddy engine???" The thing is definitely not street legal, it'll likely never be smog legal, and with no firewall it's not track legal, so why own it? John
I have read that the 472 and 500 cube caddy V8's have great torque ( remember Devilles are the same size as Electras and the Fleetwoods are bigger yet ) and you can pick them up for next to nothing. I hope that guy keeps the side windows clean, my guess the car sends more time going sideways then straight. Kevin
Actually, that guy looks like the guy from Classic Car Restoration on DIY. They restored a 60s Thunderbird. The guy in the picture above looks just like the guy on that show. Same glasses and everything!
AWWWWW Now that just hurts man......p Actually I have seen one of these. Chevette with a sb chevy in set back like that. I don't mind them, kinda like a fuel altered for the next generation. Big motor, no wheelbase, any kinda light body. The one I saw ran VERY well and had tires(slicks) stickin out the sides like this one. Owner had like all of $3000 in the car and it was fast. Really stable to for the most part I assume in part to the wide rear width. I mean no worse than any other short wheelbase cars I have seen. I think one of the bigger mags did a story on this caddy/vette' type deal once. Can't remember which though hot chevy rod, popular chevy rodding, chevy craft, . One of them. Hummmmmmmm, Buick ever make a little chevette looking thing like this ? Wonder if a guy could butcher it enough for a Buick 350'' ? later.........................
