Oil Slinger

    Can someone tell me how important is that Oil slinger thing ? I am in the process of rebuilding a 430, and I'd like to know how necessary this little piece is.

    I would not leave it off.........it helps shed oil off away from the seal so it's not so flooded

    Your motor will live without it. And the windage tray usually breaks around the bolt holes . Kinda shows you how much flexing you have going on. They quite often broke on factory blocks basic stock motor. I forgot to put my slinger in and the motor went 10 yrs before breaking a factory connecting rod.

    It also spaces the balancer out so the belts will line up

    The factory put it in to help lube the timing chain and dist gear. Hence the term "slinger". You should put it in.
