Thanks Lars and the rest of ya'all.

I can't help thinking there has got to be enough oil pressure though. Wouldn't I hear noise? I know I don't have oil pressure numbers but there seems to be hard evidence of pressure.

    1. When I remove the oil fill cap, I can see oil flowing.

    2. When I primed the oil pump, it sprayed oil everywhere.

    3. When I disconnect the electronic sender, I still get the same dim oil/choke light that flashes every once in a while like it does when it IS connected.

    4. I replaced the oil pump gears when I changed the timing cover and timing set so I know they are good.

I know we won't be convinced until the pressure numbers are in print but I feel a little more at ease anyway.

By the way Lars, I sucked on the vacuum hose that goes to the distributor and I couldn't get the little arm to move so I now know that thing is bad.

    time for another tread?

Can you move the entire plate by hand? (the one the working vacuum is suposed to).
Vacuum not working is not the knock/ping reason. :puzzled:
But ther's a reasons why it's there in the first place.(MPG, and if you use manifoild vacuum, allso smother idle)
If your mecanical timing only advanses 6* i beleve somthing is strange, do you use the -68 points distributor.?:Do No:

New knock tread please, there this people on this board that knows a lot about EVERYTHING, just lead them towards you!
And again, make that oil presure mesurment!

Another problem solved. I used the K.I.S.S. method Keep It Simple Stupid. I read the owners manual which instructed me to check my choke fuse if the oil/choke light does not come on when I turn the key to the start position or if it stays on after start up. The fuse was blown! I replaced the fuse and now it works properly.

Just another lesson learned I guess.:Do No:

    Thanks for all the help.
