I could see that. List anything for sale these days and you'll get a hundred text offers for a third of your price sight unseen. I blame the jackass pawn star and storage wars show. Everyone is an ace negotiator these days..

Talk about cutting off your nose to remove a bad smell. And the jerk considers himself a car guy - I think not.

A decade or so a former co-worker related a swap meet story from the previous weekend. He said a guy came around to him and his buddies spot. The guy picked up a 1964 Galaxie grille and offered half the asking price. His buddy turned him down. Later in the day the guy comes back and offers the same thing. He said his buddy got out of his chair, said let me see that grille, and proceeded to bend the thing over his knee. My co-worker laughed and laughed. I didn't find the story amusing what so ever. Some kind of sick if you ask me.

On one hand, I feel like this is a cry baby looking for attention. On the other hand, I feel a little sympathy as someone who's sold things and had people hit him up wanting something for nothing. Would I cut off my nose to spite my face as this guy did? No way Jose'. But a little bit if me understands.

I get it, felt like doing that a number of times. Doesn't accomplish anything though, because inevitably, the lowballer doesn't care. Everyone does want something for free. If you're buying, "it's the rarest one I've ever seen", turn around and try and sell it. "Everyone's got one of these". I get that in my coin and watch hobby all the time. It's the curse of having something that is bought with purely disposable income, if the buyer doesn't really need it to survive, it's only worth what he wants to pay for it. And that's the biggest mistake any of us collectors makes, we figure all of our hard earned work is worth something, or what we've lovingly built is worth a fortune. Well, reality check; it ain't. The guys who constantly make money off crap like this are the guys who buy it cheap, don't do anything to it, and then do find that one idiot who can't live without it, in other words, the middlemen. It's a talent, and it's also knowing your market. Most of us are too emotionally attached to our crap to see the forest for the trees, like this guy in the video was, to realize that maybe what you've got really isn't worth a penny more than what you paid for it to begin with. Sure, this guy was a flipper, he paid squat for it and tried to double his money and ended up with nothing. He got $125 back for the scrap, and probably a few bucks for the parts he "robbed" out of it first.
Any good car flipper will tell you the parts are worth more than the sum; but it's a lot of work and time to part a car out.
This a$$clown got what he deserved; if he'd had offered the car for $4700 he'd have made a quick $500 and been ahead. Instead, it cost him about $3700 to find that out.

About 30 years ago, I pulled into a salvage yard that I visited ever few weeks and the owner was in a heated discussion with someone who had just made him a low ball offer on a nice set of 15” Buick rims with good tires. I got out of my truck, he turned to me and said, “you here to pick up the Buick wheel”?
I could tell that my answer needed to be “Yes”. He turned to one of his men working in the yard and instructed him to start loading the wheels in my truck and then told him to locate every Buick wheel on the yard, in storage building, old school buses, and anywhere else they could be found.
He turned to the man who had been trying to argue with him over the price and told him “looks like I just sold all my Buick wheels” and the man left.
When he got my truck loaded, about 18 wheels, some with tires, some without. I reached in my pocket and only had about $50 on me. As I handed him the money, I told him just tell me how much you want and I will get the rest of the money to you. He took the $50 and said were even. Then I told him what parts that I was looking for and he gave those to me too. I never did get a chance to thank the man who “pissed-off” the owner.

What's wrong with people?? A true car guy would've done that no matter how many lowball offers he got. Just say no thanks ,piss off and keep the car. Or if you really gotta move it lower your price to an acceptable amount where you make a bit of money (not double) and let the next guy worry about it.

A friend of mine did that with some classic Mercedes rear lights. Prospective Buyer came offered super low price in comparison to what been discussed before. My friend took a hammer and destroyed the rear lights right there on the spot. While I can understand that to some extent it is an overreaction and just your own damage. I can’t see myself doing it.

Recently I had the Riv in my avatar for sale : I got one guy who asked if I would take 1/2 of my asking price . I said ; " SURE , WHICH HALF DO YOU WANT ??? THE FRONT HALF OR THE BACK HALF ?? "

I had another that told me to drive it to Florida , 1200 miles , and he would give me cash . Sure .

I had another tell me to drive it 250 miles to R.I. so he could , " LOOK AT IT " .

People are STRANGE that's for sure . But I still wouldn't be a complete A$$HOLE to Destroy it . Car was for sale for 4 months .

Lowballers are frustrating but I've been on that side of the fence myself so I hate to make judgments, although I do think he made a really stupid decision to destroy that car. If you don't make that lowball offer, you never know if the seller will take it. At least I know when to stop, some don't and that's when the trouble starts.

Years ago I bought an `81 Camaro Berlinetta from my best friends sister, who bought the car new and took impeccable care of the car. I had it a short time and decided it wasn't really the car for me so I put it up for sale. This was before the internet, or at least before most of even knew there was an internet. The only drawback for the car was it had 113,000 miles on it, which back then scared people a little, but given the condition and how well the car was taken care of, well...……. So I advertised it, put the miles in the ad and an accurate description. I got a call from a guy who was looking for a car for their 16 year old son who was now driving. A black Berlinetta Camaro to a 16 year old would have been most kids dream car. And with a 305, automatic he probably wasn't going to get into much trouble with it. So they drive over to look at it, about 12 miles in their case, and after they look it over the dad starts dissing on the mileage. I know what he's up to, he's about to throw me a lowball offer, so I told him, "the mileage was not only stated in the ad but we also talked about it on the phone when you called, yet you still drove over here to give me a hard time about it? Tell you what, the car is not for sale, at least to you", and I walked away. The guy tried to recover but I just waved him off. I did sneak a glance back at the kid though. He looked like he wanted to stab his dad in the eye. But I didn't destroy the car, I just sold it to someone else.

I understand getting lowball offers can be frustrating but there is a thing called put the price as low as you are willing to go then say you are firm and will not take a penny less, most people respect that. But this guy doesn't care about cars or money, if he thought he really had something he should have taken it to Barrett Jackson since barn finds are hot and let a room full of mopar enthusiasts give him the right price for it. But like I said he doesn't care about anything and it must be nice to have 4200 bucks to throw away and destroy a charger in the process.

The world is full of stupid people. Worse, they don’t know they’re stupid. Many of them are too stupid to insult. You can’t fix stupid. If you try, you end up stupid, too.

He kept saying "let that be a lesson to all you mother-f#%&ing people not to screw with sellers unless your buying". Hey, guess what? I think he just taught himself {and the rest of the world} a lesson that he's a lousy car flipper, "a Real Moron, and he should practice a little more on some old Jap junk before you start flipping old Mopar muscle cars, Geez, what an idiot! Larry.
