as far as im concernd, our gs glory was founded on real buick stage 2 engines, not a billet carved piece of aluminum that has vety little if any resemblence to a buick eng.anyone can make a 90%genatic eng make a lor of power, gimmy real buick for ever
I disagree..... But not to be argumentative this is a perfect example of why this type of thinking hurts the Buick racers/performance community wanting to compete in the past 20 years with other makes. Lack of growth. This isn't the 60s anymore. You're welcome to stay in that ERA and it's your choice but there are others that want to continue more Performance evolution. There are serious Buick racers out there. Evolution of technologies helps everyone. The Pontiac group impresses the hell out of me. It's nice that Buick got exposure in which people from other makes now want one.
For the classic car enthusiast those stock blocks and iron Stage 2 heads are truly collectables. In todays society of faster and better most everyone has gone beyond the stock parts for racing. Look at NHRA stock classes today and tell me what is stock about them. They don't have another 100 to 150 hp because someone figured that running the engine backwards made more power. I continually reminisce of my stock racing days but the cam was far from factory stock. So to go faster and live longer (car and people) we have gone to the aftermarket for better parts. Some have a slight resemblance of stock and some have none. We call our motors Buicks because they have a 4.75 bore center. That will change too. So the ones who run all factory parts I respect they're decisions, for those who change everything I respect yours. I for one will not be making factory stock parts. Anything that resembles stock will be better!
All of the internal parts in your engines were made by Buick too right? I'm sure you wouldn't have it any other way. Stock pistons and cast iron Stage2 heads for the win.
My friend's 8 second Mustang has a small block Ford in it. The whole engine is aftermarket. There is not one factory Ford part under the hood.
Will the stock crank bolt into the block? It does? Good to go, it's still a Buick. What's gonna happen if all the factory blocks are blown and gone? Will the custom heads bolt on a factory block? They do? Good again, it's still whatever brand it's supposed to be.......it's still a Buick/Chevy/Ford/Mopar in my book, just as long as the factory parts could still be used in them even if they're not likely to do so. All of the main brands do the same as far as making new blocks and heads, and someday far, far away it'll be necessary if we're still allowed to burn gasoline.
So in a word...The OP doesn't have the money to buy such things...It's been 40 plus years since a factory 455 block had been produced.Stop being a whiny hater if you can't afford big horsepower!
The aftermarket Buick parts..... pistons, rods, cams, intakes, heads, blocks, timing covers, ignitions, etc etc, are designed to fit a BUICK engine, NON of these cars are original anymore, BUT they're still Buicks
I'm with the OP. When people ask me about my 4 speed I tell them its a muncie based autogear 4 speed. I view the aftermarket blocks the same way. It's not a buick anymore. However I still think the offerings are awesome and a work of art. I doubt I'll ever be an owner.
