For me, I have all but given up on trying to sell carts on here...this is the result. There are a bunch of guys that want to say the cars are worth X amount as long as it is a selling situation or telling somebody how much the car is worth...but those same guys will crucify you if you try to even recoup your money when selling. Stefano is a good guy it seems...I have talked with him about 2 different cars now and the one I wanted i just couldn't round up the extra cash. This one i was interested in working a trade, but like when I bought my 70 vert, i want the Stage I i go with to be just right for me. this one is close, and maybe him and I can still work something out. I have a feeling though it will sell.

Unfortunately, when I do sell the 70 (which the 70 is a great car, i am just wanting to find either an X or another Stage I) it won't be on here.

My wishes of "good luck" were sincere, not net' sarcasm

I used to own that car back in the early 80s when my good friend Race Lutz found it for me in Charlotte, NC. Someone had painted it black and it was pretty rough. I "restored" it back then and brought it back to the original color and painted top ( yes, it was a bench car ) When I bought it, it definately had the original engine and the original tranny too, but I think BB Sam sold the tranny when he converted it to automatic to race it. I still have pictures of it from the 80s!

The collector who owned this Stage 1 prior to selling it just before the recent Mecum auction had it listed on e-bay this past June where it did not meet reserve with a high bid of $31,600. The collector had it available and sold it to the the Mecum auction seller just prior to the auction where the seller made money.

This is a very nice Stage 1 that as previously noted has a few deviations from how it came from the factory - it does have the original #'s matching engine with carb & distributor and while the transmission is not #'s matching (it has no VIN stamped on it) it is date code correct.

While I am not personally optimistic that the car will bring the BIN price based on current economic conditions and the previous e-bay #'s for this car, I do believe that we should respect Stefano's right to offer the car at whatever price that he feels is appropriate. The BIN is just that a buy it now price so no one is forced to pay the price - I would imagine that Stefano might sell it for less at a price that both he and a buyer could live with - at least he put his money at risk to buy the car and try to sell at a profit.

Stefano, your purchase is a good indicator that I did well on the two #'s matching '70 Stage 1's that I purchased over the past month. Best of luck with the sale. Steve

    Collector,

Do you have any vintage pics of the car or any additional paperwork?

Basket Ball Sam says the car was an "Original" California car, but the docs show it as being delivered to Deal Buick in North Carolina?

Also, I greatly appeciate the support from our friends :TU:

Yes, I have the old photos. If you PM me a mailing address I can send them to you by the end of the week when I get back home. No paperwork, though.

The original bench seat for this car is now in my car - I bought it from Sam while it was at John Osborne's shop in 1998 going through the bucket seat conversion.

My car came with a straight bench - notchback black bench seats were not available on the convertibles :Do No:

..I guess they wanted to sell buckets :blast:

    Jason,
Interesting thread. I really like the color. My shop is full of cars painted in traditional colors and this car just stands out. Some people don't like it, but I do.

Thanks for directing me to the thread :beer

Sorry Stephano. The only way I'd trade this one is for one exactly like it - a 1970 notchback bench seat covered in the correct waffle grain pattern.

If you had one to trade, you could just put it in the car.

    Notchback bench seat 4-speeds rock

Thanks Tom. I bought that car for the similar reasons. You tend to see a bunch of Clones but not many real R/Ts? They made 236 or so in 1970 with approx 65 of them accounted for.

    Hey,
Anyone know this guys real Name?

    Dear 1969427copo,

    Hey Stefano,

I asked your pricing policy on this car because I couldn't believe what you were asking for it, quite frankly. You were honest enough to admit that the car is far from original and that ruins any kind of top dollar that you were dreaming about. I'm not going to go through the changes from original; you did that already. Plus, no muscle car guy, including myself, gives a damn about ac.
As for your need to explain yourself about your pricing; when you ask a price for a car that jumps out of the dark like you're doing, you owe us all an explanation as to why you're doing it. I see that you're positioning the car between NADA average and high. My knowledge of the value of GS and GS stage 1 is limited to say the least. Actually, stage 11 would be priceless probably. However, given my ability to estimate, I will just end by saying that no one on this site will give you what you're asking. But your 30 years of experiene tells you differently, I'm sure.

    Dear rob259078,

I don't know who you are, but what I do know for certain is that I don't owe you anything! This is not a "site" this is an eBay auction.

I never felt the need to look at a Guide before I bought this Stage 1, for Inventory or any other Muscle car for that Matter! Since when do books buy cars? There were only 664 Stage 1, 4 speeds ever produced and only approx 51 had A/C. How many are left with their original engines, which are not project cars and have a cool color combo? FYI, NOT VERY MANY!!

I drive, race and show my cars. I happen to have alaways enjoyed a Muscle car with A/C. Not that I still wouldn't have purchased this Stage without it, it just makes it that much better, to me.

I just sold a 1967 Corvette 400hp Tri-Power and I can tell you that it brought a substantial premium, because it had COLD WORKING A/C and the new owner wanted to drive and enjoy it.

I paid a premium for my W30 Convertible with A/C.

I buy cars that which like, enjoy and appreciate and which I believe are special in the grand Scheme of the Musclecar World.

It is ironic that you feel compelled to tell me what my car is not worth, when you most likely do not even have a "dog in the fight".

I hope you find one for a fraction of my asking price.

"Look wiseguy, I don't give a damn about you or your puke blue skylark. Nobody will give you a fraction of the 65 grand that you're dreaming about. You may as well have it dipped in bronze because you're gonna have it a long time.

Good thing I really Like this Stage 1, I guess!!

Not for nothing Stefano, but I would probably ask about the same amount for my Aquamist car . And I dont think mine is anywhere near as nice as yours. I dont think your out of line at all on your price. Go find another Aquamist Stage 1 4 speed with the magazine coverage and notoriety this car has. Just try and find another Aquamist 4 speed Stage 1 in any condition!
