They appear to just be using the Nickey name as resellers. I sent this question to see for myself
"Your ad suggested that this was an original "Nickey" stage 1. Am I to assume that it is not, and that you are re-selling it, using the Nickey name only, with no special modifications, such as on the well-documented "Motion" GSX? Thanks, Dan"

    Nice looking car! Dan

It was my understanding that Nickey was a Chevrolet dealership, so only Chevs would be true 'Nickey' modified cars.
A google search did locate the Nickey business here:

I guess they're now in the used musclecar business!

Check the Mecum website, this car just sold for about 47,000 at the recent auction.

    Hey Walt and Mark!
Yeah, I know Nickey did Chevy's....It peeves me to see someone use a hallowed name like that. After you read all of the legal mumbo-jumbo regarding their ownership of the "intellectual property" of the Nickey name, it is clear that they are just using it to try to re-sell non-Nickey products. That's like buying the Hurst name to sell fan belts. I hope you didn't mind my using your car to gig them, Mark. Dan

    Stephano,
Glad to see you are a member. Is this just a resell, or is this a Nickey-ized car? Then or now? Thanks, Dan

A: The "Vintage" Back in the Day Nickey had nothing to do with this Stage 1. The Current and "New" Nickey is the Selling Dealership/Owner.

Thanks for the clarification, and sorry for mis-spelling your name. It is a beautiful car! Dan

Well, at least it's nice to see a former Chev-only business is now selling Buicks!:TU:
    Good luck with the sale.

Very nice looking car, it's just that for the asking/flipping price, it's hard not to make some observations. This is advertised as a 4-speed car. What's up with the "455 Stage 1 with Automatic Transmission" engine spec sticker? For $65K, you'd think ...
... and, no "d" in Gran Sport ... arggghhh.

Also, realistically, 5K miles as advertised and stated ... or 105K miles? Ad says power disc brakes ... I see a drum master cylinder and drums behind the front rallye wheels...

Thanks guys, I think it is a very cool Car.

As far as Nickey History goes......The Dealership was founded in the 1920s by Mr. Nickey. It was indeed a stand alone Chevrolet dealership, which closed in 1973.

As one of the largest volume Dealers from back in the day, they sold hundreds of used/pe-owned cars each and every month and many of those trade-in's were non-Chevy Muscle cars.

I am honored that I have been involved with reviving the Nickey name along with the help of several people who were there, back in the day.

If your ever in the area, stop in and check us out. We have sold many special Buicks and/or parts to members and friends, here on this site.

You mention the matching numbers block, but what about the trans, is it matching #'s as well? Is this an original 4 speed car and do you have a window sticker, build sheet or Sloan/Wayne Roberts docs?

Isn't this Basketball Sam's old car? Was white painted roof with bench seat 4spd.

Yes, this is Basketball Sam's former Stage 1.

It was equipped with a white painted Roof from the Factory, which was removed when it received its first repaint.

I had the opportunity to Race against this Stage one at the "Super Car Reunion" in Collinsville Illinois/Gateway International.

The car ran low 12s, right off the trailer, in full street trim and also in very bad air. It had Drag Radials and even the AC still hooked up. Then owner said it was good for high 11's.

The disc brakes were removed for racing and the car was set up as a Bucket Seat Automatic console shift.

The race engine has been removed and the original engine has been reinstalled. (No, the 4 speed trans is not the one the car was born with. Yes, it is an original 4 speed Stage.)

We have both a complete disc brake set up and bench seat available. (Parts are not included with the current auction)

To answer all the private PM: Yes, I just purchased this Stage 1 at the most recent Mecum Auction, in Saint Charles. Illinois. This is the same auction wherein the 1967 Nickey Camaro Sold for only $425,000.00. That was less than expectations but based on the prevailing economic factors, Mecum did a great Job!

You can find us buying and selling at many of the Major Muscle Car Auctions. We have been working with auctions for almost 30 years and Mecum for over 20 years.

It was a Great Auction for picking up bargains. I believe we got a few.

Do you really want to discuss My/Nickey business plan/acumen on this forum or are you just trying to prove how smart you are:confused:

I don't ever recall buying a car, for our Inventorty that I didn't expect to earn a profit on. I certainly may not have accomplished that on each and every one of the cars, which I have purchased, at auctions, over the years.

FYI, profit was certainly my motive and/or intent.

If you don't like Me, my car or my price, then don't buy it!

The selected eBay format provides an opportunity for interested buyers to find out more about the car, inspect, view, as well as make offers. If you don't agree with the BIN, then don't hit the button.

Well, speculation and arbitrage, I would say ... buy low and then sell high, even in a down market and espescially if you are prepared to hold the car and wait it out. Just a pure function of economics. I don't want my earlier comments to come across as overly critical, it's just that, well, for $65K, I would expect full disclosure and an ad copy commensurate with that kind of asking price and availability of the gold standard verification documents. If this is Sam's old car, at least a lot of the heritage & history is known.

While it is definitely a Buyer's market now for the vast majority of cars (excluding many of the most exclusive models/drivetrains), it was only a year ago or so that the Owners of these cars were championing the same Sellers/Flippers in support of higher values. Economics 101 at work here. Even Nickey has to pay the bills and eBay is a wide-ranging and economical promotional tool. That said - gulp - $20K premium BIN just seems like a stretch. I just keep reminding myself that this is America ... wait a minute, someone tell that to Wall Street ...

What is wrong with the guy buying a great car at auction for a good price and selling at a good price for a profit. Shut the hell up . I bet you can't buy the wheels off the car but you sure can bitch. :blast: BTW the color and combo is the best I have ever seen and I had one with a 350 and a black roof. This is much better.
