If anyone would like this car looked at, I live about 20 minutes away and would be more than happy to "take a peak" for someone. I'm sure I could also drag Long Bauer and Glen Stringfield along with me.

We debunked the supposidely 14K original mile GS last year. Turned out to be a 350 car, not the 455 GS the owner was stating.

nice looking car for sure. it says 1 of 680 in the listing, but my book says 1481 GS 455 hardtops for 1971, of which 1378 had turbo 400 . book does show 687 stage 1 's for that year. an error in the listing ?

Steven Dove's book Guide to Buick Gran Sports(Original Edition) shows 680 GS455 hardtops built in 71. The remaining 455 hardtops were GSX's(No breakdown) or Stage 1's(801).

    OH CRAP!:eek2:

I love that car! I live in Ohio! My 70 Skylark is blue! I'm approved for the loan! But, it would involve some serious thought....

Larry, um, do you like Gahanna? How about the cops there? Ok, here's the deal I know Gahanna pretty well. I have been a reserve police officer there for about 4 years. I would LOVE to see your Buicks man!

Just when I thought I had a solid plan, here comes this thread:rolleyes:

I know who the owner is. If anyone wants the car looked at closer,he`s in the next town from me. It is a REALLY nice car,he`s a bodyman, and does some really nice work.I seen the car last year, and from what I remember it is a clean car

I can't believe that no one is bidding on this car! :Do No:

I find it impossible that I am still the high bidder, as I never bid high enough to buy anything, unless I REALLY want it.

I am sure I am a long ways from his reserve, but maybe I will get lucky!:bglasses:

    Henry,

The 680 figure is on page 12 of the book that I have which is dated 1988. I can scan a copy and post if interested.

    Derek,

I got your Pm. I'll pm you about getting together.

    Larry

PS. I now have one of the 680 71 GS455 hardtops. All numbers matching with an excellent grille. Needs restored!

larry, thanks. my book is the 1992 edition, i dont know why, but as i understand it, my book says 1,481 on page 22. it also shows 5,986 GS 350's for 1971, 801 s-1 hardtops, 124 s-1 GSX's, 656 GS 350 converts, 165 GS 455 converts, 81 s-1 converts. total production for 1971 Gran Sports 9,170

do any of these numbers sound right ?

these numbers are in the far right column, under TOT. am i reading the chart wrong ? thanks, henry

Henry, I have the same book you do and you're reading it right.

Chris, I learned my lesson on ebay bidding. If you really want something wait to bid until the last 40 seconds.

    I concur!!

Mike said it best...I couldn't agree more!

Actually I would wait until the last 10 seconds if I really wanted it.

I am quite sure that the bid I placed is not sufficient to meet the reserve. If it is, and I won the car for that amount ($6,969.69), I would love to have it!!!!!

    As a buyer

I've made generous, fair offers quickly to see if they will end the auction early. It worked a time or two, and I think it is fair for both. If an item is at $70-80, you offer $210 to your door (so they can't screw you on shipping). I paid what I thought it was worth to me, he got more than he ever thought he could get.:Do No: Sure there is a chance he could have gotten more, but then again it may have been much less, plus ebay fees. I had one guy tell me he would never end an auction early. Too bad for him, cost him $65 or so.

I also made sure I bid to be the high bidder before contacting them. I figured they knew I was serious then.:Smarty:

    Good luck, Dan

Here is a copy of the page I took my info from. It is not as dark as I would have liked but I think you can see the numbers.

Appears to be a difference in total numbers between the editions.

No documentation and no protectoplate. Just receipts from the resto.

All said, you still have a possible clone no matter what. When and if anyone buys it, and I'm not saying it matters or that you shouldn't, just know that you can't prove what it's claimed to be. That's the one thing that sucks about 71's. If it had all the documentation, you could tack on an easy 5k more I'm sure.

    Ken,

He says it is a numbers matching car, so if it has a numbers matching 455 and turbo 400, isn't that pretty good proof (assuming it hasn't been restamped)?

Its NOT a clone,it is a REAL GS 455,original moter/trannyLike I said,I know who the owner is.What is sad about the 71`s,is my 455 car will be worth more than my Stage car,due to the numbers matching moter/trans
