OK, this is the best I can do for now. According to my Buick Parts Catalog, the black housing was used on the following series: 3300 (Special), 3400 (GS350 & Sportwagons) and 3500 (Skylarks). The woodgrain housing was used on 4400 series (Skylark Customs) and 4600 (GS 455's). So, looks like GS 350's should have the black housing and GS 455's have the woodgrain. I could (and may) be wrong about this, as I am just putting together information I looked up in several different manuals and catalogs. Don't quote me on anything...BTW, this only holds true for the 1970 model year, as best I can tell.
Woodgrain for 70 GS 350's Chris,Brad,Phil My 70 Gs 350 does not have the woodgrain...but I do have the standard interior...bench no arm rest..BUT...I have A/C..AM/FM..Tilt wheel..and rear defrost:grin: ... it also has remote mirrior on the drivers side and a 3.23 posi...you would of thoght with all these options he would of ordered the better interior package??...My car was built in April of 70 in Framingham Ma..
I think Brad hit the nail on the head too--- Even my very low option Skylark Custom rust holes in the roof parts car with the oddball bare- bones bench cloth interior (black, trim code 148..... paisley looking patterns) had the woodgrain dash. I remember several 43500 series 'Skylark 350' 2dr HT cars in the boneyard with the vinyl notchback, waffle-grain interior, all without the woodgrain..... Personally, I don't care for the woodgrain, but it seemed to be all the rage in Detroit starting about the 1970 model year--- went with the 'earth tone' exterior color fad, I guess.... I think the black (or argent of '68-'69 cars) looks more sporty in our favorite rides..... don't get me started on consoles and floor shifters...... Just MHO, of course.........
